Hi ,

Welcome to our group. I hope you find the answers you need here.

My son is 8 (almost 9). He has been on growth hormone since he was 4.

He has Silver Syndrome.

For us, growth hormone has been great. He is eating better than ever,

he is taller and stronger than he would be without growth hormone. It

was his lack of strenght that was a major deciding factor for growth

hormone. Also the fact that in a 14 month period his bone age

advanced 3 months. He was headed into kindergarten being the size of

an 18 month old.

We considered not using growth hormone but really it was not an

option. Without it he would not be able to keep up with the other

kids or have the strenght and endurance to keep up with the work

demanded in school.

Some of our relatives advised against growth hormone. They told us we

should let nature take its course. However, our view was that RSS was

interfereing with how he would be naturally and that this medication

was necessary to counter act the adverse affects of RSS (short

stature, no appetite, very low muscle tone etc.).

We have seen no side affects from growth hormone. Also, we asked

ourselves what if we didn't give it and then when our son completed

puberty started asking why we didn't, why couldn't he be stronger and

taller. Also, if we or he decides against it, we can always stop. It

is easier to stop using growth hormone than it is to try and catch up

if you start late.

This is just my opinion. Others I hope will share theirs.

I hope this helps.
