Guest guest
I did not know this...maybe everyone else did I always put my avocados in the fridge when they are ripe and they will keep a while but I've never tried this w/bananas. Marla Should I refrigerate my bananas? Any decision about refrigeration or non-refrigeration of bananas should depend on their degree of ripeness. If a banana is not yet ripe, refrigeration will cause chill injury and disrupt the ripening process. If an unripe banana is refrigerated, even if it is brought back to room temperature, it will not ripen. However, if you have bananas that are already ripened, it is fine to keep them in the refrigerator for a period of several days. You're likely to see a darkening of the peel, but the inner flesh of the banana itself should not become discolored or harmed in any way. Guest guest
For sure! I always have a huge rotation of bananas going - some to eat, some to freeze, some to bake with, some not so ripe for the rest of my family....which is why I always have fruit flies in my house! Guest guest
Me, too. I learned pretty early on in the diet that I have to have a LOT of bananas going. That way, when the ship comes in with rock hard green ones, I have a supply in the freezer, at least. I know what you mean about all the happy fruit flies in the kitchen. For sure! I always have a huge rotation of bananas going - some to eat, some to freeze, some to bake with, some not so ripe for the rest of my family....which is why I always have fruit flies in my house! Guest guest
This is a bit off topic but to help with the fruit flies....I wash my bananas when I get them home and let them dry in my dish drainer. To catch fruit flies you can try this....fill a wide mouth pint jar with about 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar then add a squirt of dish soap and fill to the top with water so there are bubbles to the top. The flies with try to get at the sweet fermented fruit smell and get caught in the bubbles. hope this helps sharon
