Hi Glenna & welcome!

I think the best thing is to keep it as simple for them as

possible...and that includes the docs AND nutirionists! Someone had

a little picture or sketch (, was it you?)of what vits are

absorbed where. The picture had arrows pointing to that first

bypassed section of the small intestines, where B-12, calcium, iron

and a couple of other things are absorbed. If you could bring a copy

of that, and " show & tell " then what's really going on, maybe they'll

start to understand.

Also, re calcium carbonate vs. citrate, you'll get many great

suggestions on here, but I just say that carbonate needs stomach acid

to be absorbed and citrate doesn't...we have very little stomach acid

anymore, therefore, Tums, Viactiv, etc., are useless (unless you want

kidney stones).

Good luck teaching!

Boy, would I love to have a copy of that picture! If whomever has it

could post it in the files section of this group then all would have

access to it. Please!?! Pretty please! Pretty please with

artificial sweeter on top! (Or as my granddaughter says, I'll be

your friend!)

Hi

My name is and I am 52 years old living in New Jersey.

I've

been lurking on and off for a while, and I decided it was time to

introduce myself.

I had a lap-RNY one year ago on 1/3/03 and I have lost 138 lbs. My

BMI has gone from 50 to 26.5 and I have about another 10 lbs. to

reach my goal of a normal BMI. I am (obviously) very very happy

with my outcome so far. Of course the last few pounds are going

very slowly, but I think they are going.

The thing is my wonderful DH of 32 years, who has been incredibly

supportive all along, (never been heavy, just a little tummy with a

BMI of 27) is suddenly telling me that I look too thin. He has been

thrilled with my new body, but now says that he really doesn't

want

me to loose anymore weight because I'm starting to

look " emaciated " . When I point out that most of our friends

wear

size 6 or 8, and he doesn't think they look emaciated, whereas

I'm

still wearing size 12, he agrees that he's not being logical.

However, he insists that I'm thin enough, and has recently begun

sabotaging my efforts by encouraging me to eat formally favorite

foods. I'm afraid that this is becoming a problem.

Has anyone else had similar experiences? How have you dealt with

them? I'd appreciate any advice from this experienced group.

Thanks.

,

It sounds like your dh is feeling a bit insecure. Although that is a bit

understandable since he too has to get use to your new body and the

attention you might be getting it is something he's going to have to come to

terms with. You can try being supportive but you know how much weight you

need to lose to feel healthy. You have to do what is best for you!
