Guest guest
Hi, The parents of a very adorable 2 year old in Spain have an RSS daughter with a gtube. However, her reflux is worse and now the drs are thinking fundo (they thought she wouldn't need it, too extremem to do when they did the gtube). Childs growth has still not taken off since the tube and reflux meds don't seem to help. How many kids have fundos and any suggestions? Also, need food suggestions for a mom in Brazil of a lactose intoleratn RSS child. THANKS! Guest guest
Hi , My questions/ideas/suggestions for the child with the g-tube and increased reflux. 1) What reflux meds are they using, and have they tried a combination of a PPI (proton pump inhibitor - Prevacid, Prilosec, etc) and an H2A (Histamine 2 antagonist - Zantac, Pepcid, etc.) Bran takes Zantac in the morning, and Prevacid at night. Most children taking both types of meds, have a reversed schedule. (PPI in the morning, and H2A at night) Unfortunately, Bran suffers from aspiration problems, and is more likely to aspirate his reflux at night. Prevacid controls his reflux better than the Zantac, so it's given with his nighttime meds. 2) What type of feeds is the child receiving?? Are they bolus or continuous?? Bolus feeds are more likely to produce reflux. Continual feeds at a lower overall rate can reduce reflux. 3) Has the child been tested for delayed gastric emptying? Are they trying any of the meds that will aid this problem?? Delayed gastric emptying can increase reflux. 's growth did not take off until they had addressed all of these issues, as well as keeping him healthy for an extended period of time. He did have the triple procedure (fundo, pyloroplasty, and g-tube placement) all at the same time. Unfortunately, due to poor physical health at the time of surgery, he blew his fundo early on, hence the continued problems with reflux. Sorry that I can't offer any suggestions for the lactose intolerance problem. My son is allergic to milk and all milk-by-products (whey, sodium casinate, etc...) and we had to cut ANYTHING with any form of milk from his diet. Hope this helps.
