Okay, I'm 17 months out. Still size 4-6, everything still fits,

nothing has changed. (I haven't weighed in a couple of weeks, but I

only do it once a month.) So why, WHY do I look in the mirror these

days and see a fat person? Just a few months ago I'd look in the

mirror, see myself in size 4 pants, and think, " Wow, look at that, I

look slim, and these are a size 4. " Now for the past month or so, I

look in the mirror wearing the same pants and I see a fat person with

bulky thighs. I think, " Yikes, I'm heavy, I'm gaining weight. There's

no WAY these are really size 4. "

What is UP with that!?

You know, one thing I remember from earlier weight-loss experiences is that

when I was losing weight, I'd go through the same thing. I finally figured out

that my body was shifting all the time, little by little, and between my

getting used to being a certain size and the shifting, I'd end up seeing some

part get smaller and another part not quite ready to move yet, and that part

would suddenly look HUGE. Ultimately it all evened out.

Martha,

I'm almost 16 months out and I see myself starting to do the same thing. My

clothes fit the same (or even looser) yet I'm starting to look at my butt

and legs more critically. The only thing I can think of is that in the

beginning we lost weight so fast that every time I looked in the mirror I

saw myself thinner. Now that my body is staying more or less the same I'm

starting to really see the flaws. It doesn't really bother me because

compared to how I looked before surgery I am so happy with what I have,

flabby thighs and all. Maybe if you took some pictures periodically you'd

see that you're not getting fatter. I tend to see the " real " me in pictures,

more so then in a mirror.
