Lol! I'm in the middle of a " House Party " in a writer's forum

where I hang out.

A Canadian is our hostess, and the party is set in Constantinople in

1493. Said hostess is going crazy, dashing between Constantinople, her

own home, her in-laws, and her parents.

We have attendees from all over space and time. (My crew arrived from a

planet in the Dragon Constellation, via flying carpet...)

But yes, I'm planning Turkey Day!

Turkey

Dressing (both almond flour and celeriac) -- going to test a new dressing

using lentils as a base this week.

Gravy (homemade turkey broth thickened with the meat off the turkey

necks)

Homemade cranberry sauce

Cranberry-apple-pecan compote

Mock sweet potatoes (butternut squash)

Most mashed potatoes (celeriac)

Spinach & pearl onions with brie sauce (the brie sauce was my

first-ever SCD recipe -- my niece says good brie sauce is wasted on yucky

vegetables!)

Almond flour muffins with cheddar & parmesan

Eggnog frozen yogurt (made with half & half yogurt.)

I have done pumpkin pie, keep meaning to get around to mince meat pie,

and pecan pie.

Merry Wherry Day (and you'd have to be a fan of Anne McCaffrey to catch

that one!)

in-laws, and her parents.

Why 1493, out of curiosity?

Wouldn't a dragon be more practical?

Well, because that's when her primary character, who is the " in

story " hostess, is from.

Wouldn't a dragon be more practical?

Possibly, but they don't HAVE dragons on that planet, unlike Pern.

And Fairleigh, a magicker with a wicked sense of humor, decided to

see if he could build a flying carpet ala Arabian Nights that

could handle the trip. He thought it would be amusing to arrive in Turkey

that way.

Happy Thanksgiving! I really like the pumpkin pie recipe in BTVC. I've only made

it with butternut squash though. I use dripped half & half for the yogurt, so

it's pretty fattening!

I'll make mashed potatoes for the guests too.

That party sounds so fun!Our Thanksgiving went well and I already have ideas for next time from your list below! I have to say, I love this holiday on the SCDiet. Fall vegetables are so yummy.

Well, back to work tomorrow with my leftovers!Kathttp://scdkat.comOn Sun, Oct 10, 2010 at 7:52 PM, Wizop Marilyn L. Alm wrote:

One of the things I love about Thanksgiving and Christmas on SCD is the

fact that I can eat as much as I want and NOT feel ill afterwards.

And yes, fall vegetables are so much fun to work with. I've been thinking

about a butternut soup that I had once, and I'm wondering if I can manage

to re-create it.

It could be interesting to try to put on an SCD feast for 1800+

people!

I think I'd need some help.

And someone ELSE washes the dishes!

Well, sure, if we could ever do it, I know everyone would be more than

willing to wash, chop, stir AND do dishes!

I'm sure you can as all of your recipes are DE-LISH! I attempted a version a

few weeks back as I needed to use up some left over butternut squash puree, as

well as chicken stock (I have a hard time with the chicken soup straight up but

find if I use it as a base for a soup like zucchini basil for example, it does

me wonders). Mine didn't turn out too glorious so I won't post a " recommended "

recipe, but one thing that I think worked nice is I had some yogurt made out of

fully leaded HEAVY CREAM (found 1 store in my area that actually carries this

w/out carragenan!) and that was a great addition to make the soup nice and

creamy (not to mention it made a delightful whip cream to top off my pumpkin pie

after beating the yogurt stiff with added honey)...just need to get the portions

figured out of squash:stock:yogurt:spices...but butternut soup is one of my all

time favorites pre-SCD so I too am on a mission to get it right!

Happy cooking!
