Guest guest
Hello To All, An update and how I got " back on track " . I had my wls, RNY in Columbus May 1999. Dr. P. Choban. God bless her! In the last year I started gaining. I have some health issues that hold me back from walking and exercising like I had been doing. The weight started coming back on. And it seemed like there was no stopping it. My cloths got tighter and I had to start buying bigger sizes. Everyone noticed and some said " See, surgery doesn't work " . Well, I first thought maybe my tummy became to stretched. I took the cottage cheese test. I did find that I could eat a large amount. But it wasn't so much that I had to be concerned that the surgery seam came apart. That seemed ok. Then I started looking at what exercising I couldn't do anymore. That's when I KNEW I had to change my intake. My body couldn't work enough to burn off what I was eating. ALSO... I was eating loads of sugars and junk foods. Not at first but over the last few years it became more and more. So Breads, Potato's, and Pasta's and Rice were in my diet everyday. As well as sugary foods and Soda's, big time. To start, I thought I would make my intake the same as what I had through those weeks just after wls. Do all the same steps in hopes of jump starting my good wls habits needed. I stopped all the bad foods and beverages and drank nothing but water, chicken and beef broth, and lemon water for 2 1/2 days. I cannot do shakes, protein drinks or any fruit juices... NONE. (I did continue taking my vitamins since my wls religiously.) After the 2 1/2 days I had to have something to eat. I was feeling weak and tired. So all that came to a stop. BUT the only thing I decided I would eat was PROTEIN! I was soooo hungry I wanted something and my mouth was hungry for anything! ...Pulled out a pork chop. I grilled it. Yes I enjoyed even the bone. I continued the non-sugar, no calorie fluids, but stopped the broths. I wasn't craving Pepsi or sugary Soda anymore. I didn't have to have my breads, pasta, rice, and potatoes. I didn't have to go for any junk food either. I wasn't craving all the foods that I was just a few short weeks ago and months before that. I couldn't believe it! I haven't even sipped a soda. Nooo one could have told me I could break away from that. I haven't emptied my shelves of all those foods either. I just don't even care if it's there or not. I'm not doctor. I just figure it's because of all the fluids for 2.5 days and it cleared my system of all the sugars, starches and junk food in my system. That was Jan 23rd I had the grilled pork chop. Since then I have been on track and I'm now... last I checked 10 pounds down of the 20 I had gained. I realize I had to change my intake if I can't exercise more. But to much bad junk...My body wasn't able to burn all that sugar, starches, and junk food off. I've added lowwww carb veggies to my food intake and keep the WATER or non-cal. fluids at hand. I grill most of my meats. If I am hungry... I pull out some meat and grill it! If I eat that.. I don't seem to crave for the old foods I was eating. I do buy lean cuts as well. I'm hoping to find some protein pill someday. I could stand that but to date nothing in drinks. Never liked shakes even before surgery. Not fruit juices either. With all that said... I know 20 pounds doesn't seem like much but I started feeling physically bad, and feeling fat and unattractive. When I had to buy bigger clothes... I felt like it was all coming to an end. REALLY! Also, where would it end? I have seen where people have gained up. I had to stop it nowwww before it got up higher. Not after I had topped out. I just couldn't live with that. So I had to do something. Idea's came in e-mail form and people cared. Suggestions helped me think things through. THANK YOU for helping me get on track. I CAN do this and I know I can get back to my goal weight now. I truly didn't think I could turn it around. So much doubt. Glad I was wrong!! HUGSSSS, Tink :]
