Guest guest
Hi All, Was on here a few weeks ago with our struggles to get a script to get a helmet for my daughter. Well...got a call from Midwest Orthotics today and she is just rambling on about getting the predetermination and then scheduling our fabrication scan and I'm just floored. I told her we didn't have a script and she said 'yes we do'. I asked how she got it and she said she sent a letter of medical necessity for the helmet and the fab scan and our pediatrician signed off on it! Gasp!!! I don't know if she didn't know that the craniofacialist jerk we saw wanted us to wait 3 months and come back and see him. We were scheduled to go back for our second opinion with the medical director on Monday at the craniofacial department and were going to get the star scan before we went so we were armed with knowledge (we've just had measurements with the calipers). Here are her official numbers that were printed in her LOMN: cephalic index 91.9% and cranial vault assymetry of 15 mm Wow...just so relieved to finally have a script signed. Now...pre determination with the insurance. We have aetna and I've spoke with them and read up on the policy. Only thing will be if our ped put it in her chart when we first discussed the head shape and she talked to us about repositioning. Worst case if she didn't...we saw the physical therapist for it on 6/29 so I know they have good notes. Just had to share my joy!!! Well..not that I'm excited about sticking my precious Kate in a helmet for 23 hours a day but ya'll know what I mean. :-) Mother to Kate (a twin...5 months old today)
Guest guest
Awesome! You have a right to be excited. Nobody wants their kid to be in a helmet but more so nobody wants to have their child not get treated for their plagio merely because a doctor doesn't want to sign off on it. I still don't understand it all fully I guess. They are not making the insurance pay for it by signing off on the script. They are not determining medical necesity. It is merely a recommendation they are making as a potential treatment course. Just like any script they write, a doctor will not guarantee any medication is definitely the one that will work, but they still write the script and let us try if it is a reasonable option. Who gives any MD the right to play God. If they want to have a child with Plagio and choose NOT to treat with helmets then that is their right as a parent. Ok, off my soap box. It is frustrating to hear parents even have to worry about that step in the process. The insurance paying for it I can see as a potential issue, but merely getting a script is ridiculous. Cograts to you, regardless of the round about way it happened!!! Sleep well tonight and dream of round heads!!! Jen Fellow twin mom of 2 little ones in helmets Wow! We got a script! Guest guest
Talk about a nice surprise! BTW, I bet your little girl will barely care about the helmet after a few days. Congrats! > > Hi All, > > Was on here a few weeks ago with our struggles to get a script to get a helmet for my daughter.
