Okay.. here goes. Yes, size 6 is a " little " number... but it is entirely possible to be a size 6, or heck, even a size 4 and still be overweight -- and even look overweight. Depending on height and body structure you can be very chunky and still fit into that size 6. The problem with thinking things in size numbers is that it just doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot. There is a woman on my VBG list who is constantly moaning about the fact that the " charts " say she is overweight and yet she wears clothes from the little girls department... " they must be crazy! " she says ... well ... she is 4'11 inches tall. Wearing a little girls size 16 does not mean you are skinny ... it just means you are short in stature. After all, we've all seen plenty of very chunky little girls who can still buy clothes in the kids department (though probably not for very many more years). Size numbers are my particular hot button ... because I am tall -- and therefore have to have a " bigger " size (and I know that what is " bigger " in definition varies greatly in personal opinion). It messes with my mind. I wear mostly 10's -- and yet, there are these size 6 gals in my group that I look at and thing, " Gee, she's really chubby... and here I am, wearing a 10.... I must be a whale! " I KNOW that there people out there who are wearing sizes larger than mine that right now are thinking I have a screw loose (which I acknowledge to be true) or who are, perhaps, really ticked off at me -- I'm sorry for my particular neurosis and my need to compare and assess other bodies. I'm working on this! I just felt the need to express that clothing size does NOT indicate the degree of which someone may be overweight. A person in a size 4 can be " fat " while a person in a size 14 is at " ideal " weight -- it all depends on height and frame. Guest guest
Not to mention that there is NO standardization in clothing at all. Not only do sizes vary from designer to designer, but also manufacturer to manufacturer...and it also depends on what country that garment was made in. Not to mention if it is a full moon the sizes will all be smaller, but if it is half moon the sizes will be larger. If it is an odd day, then NOTHING fits!!!!
