Guest guest
With all the discussions on Ulcers...I have a question. I am currently taking Prolesec 2 times a day and it has worked. Over the last couple of months it has stopped working as well, I wake up with acid in my throat and mouth from my stomach, and am having minor pain. What is my next step....I know I need to go back to my doctor, but thought I would just throw the question out there. Guest guest
Karla, the same thing happened to me with Prilosec, but only after a month. Ask your doc for a scrip for Nexium. I've been on it for about 5-6 months now, with no problems...it's worth a try. in NJ ************************ > With all the discussions on Ulcers...I have a question. > > I am currently taking Prolesec 2 times a day and it has worked. Guest guest
This is a timely discussion for me. I just had my three year check up with surgeon. I discussed the problem of (not really) heartburn- not the same pain as presurgery but there just the same and hurts just as bad, just different. If I try to back of the OTC meds it comes back with a vengence. And I have to switch the kinds of OTC stuff because it only works for a few weeks and then bam! pain back. He wants me to try Nexium for 3 weeks then taper off to OTC Prevacid, then nothing. If pain returns then scope. I don't wanna! Wah, wah, wah! Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 .....I don't know how long, but I'm afraid the pain will come back if I go off it, ....
Guest guest
I don't know how long my doc will let me stay on Nexium, but I just had to refill the scrip, so I called him, told him how well it was working, so he gave me a scrip for another 3 months of refills. Of course the pain-in-the-butt insurance companies will only let you fill 1 month at a time. I like this stuff. in NJ ********************** > > He wants me to try Nexium for 3 weeks then taper off to OTC Prevacid, then nothing. If pain returns then scope. I don't wanna! Guest guest
With all the dicussion on ulcers I decided I needed to do something about my hurting tummy and what I'm pretty sure is an ulcer. I have been taking Prilosec for about 2 years (This was prescribed orginally because I had pain in my tummy and had GERD again) and it worked up until about the last month or month in a half. I have been having pain in my tummy...usually wakes me up at night. Also, have been nauseous...the pain during the day is usually about 2 hours after meals and does not occur every day it has come and gone over the last month or so. From what I have read these are definitely signs of ulcers. I think the ulcer was caused by NSAIDs which I took over the summer for an injury to my back. So, I called my surgeon who then called in prescriptions for Amoxicillian, Biaxin and Prevacid which will hopefully help until my appt. I see him on Feb 13th. Two of these are antibiotics for bacterial type ulcer (which I don't think I need for my particular ulcer but will take just in case)...the other is similar to the Prilosec that I was already taking. My questions is...what happens if these don't work? Is there a possibility that I will have to have surgery to repair? Just want to know what I have to look forward to. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Karla, I came close to having surgery from my nasty lil ulcers. My surgeon and my gastro doc wanted to schedule the surgery, but I begged for one more month. I had to call my gastro every couple of days to report how I was feeling. I took time off from work, took every med just like I was supposed to and I didn't take my vits (I'm not recommending that any one else follow this part) I couldn't eat much, but upped my protein shakes and made attempts to get my cals up, without getting my carbs up. I felt somewhat better, got a reprieve from my docs and just before Christmas had a scope and the ulcers are still there, but do not take up 3/4 of my pouch and they are healing. So, I just make every effort to keep up with the meds and take better care of it. I have heard of folks that have had surgery to repair the ulcer everyone that I have heard from has done well. I just have a fear of being back in surgery and don't want to be there. Best of luck to you, you'll be in my thoughts!
