Guest guest
I am scheduled for hernia repair/panniculectomy on January 26. I hate to admit it but I am really frightenend of another surgery. I feel like I am " pushing my luck " . I do believe in God and my Saviour Jesus Christ and have prayed about this. I am justifying the hernia repair as something that has to be done (It is a double hernia the size of a bowling ball) but the incision from the panni is what has be scared. I know this is not as invasive as the rny (two of them) was and I am a lot healthier than I was then. BUT what frightens me is that I think that a lot of my " skin " is just plain fat and not empty hanging skin. Did anyone else feel like this and is it harder to remove the fat and skin vs just skin? Also the surgeon will not do a " hoochie lift " because he says it would pull on the mesh/hernia repair too much. He says he will do the panni without significant tightening of the muscles.....HUMMMM. Is this enough? Will I end up with a waist line that I want so much? Please advise if anyone has had panni without muscle tightening. One more question: Does a hernia repair tighten the muscles any? I plan to address these questions to my surgeon too. thanks! Guest guest
I'm not a plastic surgeon. They sometimes have very, very good reasons for saying what they say. I've never argued with my plastic surgeon because if he doesn't think it can be done, I sure don't want to " push the envelope. " However, I've also known cases where surgeons chose the wrong procedures. Do you trust this doctor's experience completely and totally? Did you get more than one opinion? Does he have impeccable references? I believe that's where the answer lies. I think the skin has fat " attached. " My rolls of skin felt " fatty. " All the best, in Austin RNY April 1998 Re: I am scared....panniculectomy/hoochie lift > I am scheduled for hernia repair/panniculectomy on January 26. When I saw my " before " pictures (before the surgery) I paniced and thought that I was jumping the gun and doing all of this too soon. I wondered why the Doc agreed to do it.....was he just trying to make a buc?? But he was the #1 guy in Pgh, and I remembered that I had been told that he was very picky. The results were wonderful.........he told me that they do suck out a lot of fat also.......he said that they " need " to anyway to do contouring.......my waist is great. I had been obese my whole life......and had 4 BIG pregnancies........he only did a pannictulectomy and didn't touch the muscles.......I was worried too..........but all is great!! I will tell you though.......for both me and my neighbor the recovery from the tt was MUCH harder and longer than the RNY.......to me the RNY was a breeze........the tt knocked me for a loop. I think part of the problem was that I was not as " prepared " for the tt......I wasn't as knowledgable going into to it as I was the RNY. Expect to be out of things for a while.............best to you........ P. Re: I am scared....panniculectomy/hoochie lift
Guest guest
Marilyn, When I had the panniculectomy done they removed about 27 lbs only 3 of which was skin. I don't think it is that hard to remove the fat with the skin especially if you have a hanging panni. However, sometimes a surgeon will do a little liposuction. This is something you probably need to address with the surgeon. Guest guest
I had fat in them thar rolls. I could only wear elastic waist pants, even if they were size 4. If they had not rebuilt my body beneath the skin, I would still be shaped like a box. They BUILT me a waist. Just the skin removal would not have done what I wanted/needed to make me normal. I am an apple. I would surely seek a 2nd opinion. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
