Guest guest
Sorry Beverley I missed the part where it was specifically protein in your urine. Obviously you have to have that checked. It can be a symptom of many things including diabetes. Look after yourself carefully. You are important to us! My prayers for your great niece also! Guest guest
mary beth i think we already know that beverley joy is a diabetic, we've talked about it in relation to prednisone when i was diagnosed it was because i had a bladder infection went to the GP he tested my urine -- there was sugar so he tested my finger it was high they did an A1C test later we found that it was about 7% he gave me a test kit told me to watch diet and exercise gave me a prescription for the diabetes class in the mean time, the transplant team referred me to an endocrinologist she put me on metformin the podiatrist explained that when the sugar spills into the bladder, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, and that's probably what caused the bladder infection isn't it amazing how one thing leads to the next and the circle of events???? if it weren't for the prednisone, the diabetes may have developed a few years down the road Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: BeverleyTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, December 4, 2009, 4:23 PM I'm guessing but it sounds like your doctor may be talking about the presence of sugar in your urine when she says your kidneys are "spilling out". Sometimes it is said that someone's kidneys are 'spilling sugar' of there is sugar in the urine. That is typically a symptom of diabetes when someones blood sugar is high enough that it begins 'spilling out' of the blood through the kidneys into the urine. If this is the case the doctor will discuss your options as far as diet, lifestyle and medication. I know this would be unwelcome news but type 2 diabetes can be controlled and you can be feeling better than you do now. Also wanted to say thank you for the thoughts and prayers for my niece. Guest guest
Sorry Joyce. Didn't mean to miss something so obvious. It's difficult to keep track of the exact constellation of ailments that all our members cope with. I was just trying to offer an explanation for a phrase that her doctor used. Whether it's sugar or protein she's spilling, both are symptoms that need exploration and treatment. Have a good weekend! Guest guest
Beverley, That's what happened to me. Actually once I was taking less than 20mg of prednisone the diabetes resolved on it's own and it hasn't come back. I've been totally off the prednisone for almost 3 years now. Guest guest
Beverley, They tell you to wear a bracelet because of the diabetes not the drug (well partly the drug) Metformin can cause low blood sugar which can make you pass out. Its actually a very safe drug but you should not have a CT with contrast if you are taking it. When I was first on it I always had to stop for a day and then wait a day. Low blood sugar can make people think you are drunk because you act stupid and your breath smells fruity like you have been drinking wine. If you don't get treated or they leave you to " sleep it off " you can die. Diabetes is as dangerous as the pulmonary fibrosis if not treated right. I was diabetic long before my lungs crapped out and they found out because I could not walk a straight line in my doctors office. She thought I was having a stroke but my sugars were over 400. Guest guest
My Dear Beverley, I'm so sorry to hear of your disturbing test results. It's okay to get upset, but try not to get discouraged and think you would be better off dead because that's just not true! I for one would miss your e-mails and meeting you and getting to know you! I know it gets frustrating to be constantly bombarded with test results, treatments, medical appointments and new health problems to worry about and another trip to the doctors. But they will be on-top of the problem and you will get the proper treatment and be okay. Take a deep breath of O2 and exhale with pursed lips. Try to let go of tension…let go of anything that’s on your mind right now…Imagine yourself walking along a peaceful white sand beach…The waves are gently lapping on the sand. The birds are singing. The air is calm and fragrant. Enjoy for a moment at the beach. Guest guest
, I am not suicidal but sometimes I get so overwhelmed with it all that I feel like I would like to go to sleep and not wake up. I'm over that now until the next time. Now I need a prescription and my prescription plan won't pay for it I'm not allowed any of the new medicines. I may have to get someone to take me to the doctor because the ground is covered with snow. I could drive now but if it snows more I won't.I have new glasses ready in Spokane and I can't get there to get them until Bob wants to go That will be sometime this week. Maybe on Thursday. If I was over there I would get them in Silverdale and I could drive there. You sound like bio feedback. I have done that in the past. I guess I should try it again. It will be good to get over there for awhile but I won't be able to stay long enough. Guest guest
Thank you.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia Idaho From: DyaneB <dyanebillings@ yahoo.com>Subject: Re: BeverleyTo: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. comDate: Friday, December 4, 2009, 9:41 PM Beverley,They tell you to wear a bracelet because of the diabetes not the drug (well partly the drug) Metformin can cause low blood sugar which can make you pass out. Its actually a very safe drug but you should not have a CT with contrast if you are taking it. When I was first on it I always had to stop for a day and then wait a day. Low blood sugar can make people think you are drunk because you act stupid and your breath smells fruity like you have been drinking wine. If you don't get treated or they leave you to "sleep it off" you can die. Diabetes is as dangerous as the pulmonary fibrosis if not treated right. I was diabetic long before my lungs crapped out and they found out because I could not walk a straight line in my doctors office. She thought I was having a stroke but my sugars were over 400. Guest guest
Beverly, I actually don't know how it reacts with the contrast I just know they always made sure I hadn't had any for the 24 hours before hand. Yeah I've always been a " brittle " diabetic. My sugar can go from from 57 to 330 in a heartbeat. I do best with just protien and vegtables but I am a bread a holic after a couple of days I go looking for a roll like an addict looking for a fix. Good thing my lungs are gonna kill me cuz otherwise the diabetes sure would! Guest guest
The CT was done when I had to be rescued from a boat and I was so sick I had to go to the hospital. I had been sleeping for several days and had been sick for at least a week before that so I was pretty sick and the CT was neccesary to find out why I was so sick. The Imuran I was taking was destroying my pancreas. Anyhow, I'm still here so I guess it didn't hurt.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Re: BeverleyTo: Breathe-Support Date: Saturday, December 5, 2009, 11:11 PM Beverly, I actually don't know how it reacts with the contrast I just know they always made sure I hadn't had any for the 24 hours before hand.
