Guest guest
Hi , I had a bilateral sagittal split. I looked up yours on the internet, and I believe it is the same as what you are having done, because by OS also rotated the one side of my lower jaw. I suffered from assymetry and a crossbite, so if your problem is similar the solution is probably the same. My surgery was three weeks ago and I am doing pretty good now. Make sure you find the shopping list that is somewhere here in the archives. Know that everyone heals differently, but you should give yourself a couple weeks rest before jumping back into work or school. Make sure for the first week you have someone to take care of you. The healing process isn't to bad for the most part. Your meds will keep you comfortable and you'll sleep alot in the beginning. The main thing is getting used to the splint and the liquid diet. Do you know if you will be wired, banded or neither? My surgery went so well that I have no bands or anything holding my mouth together. Let me know what your specific problems are, and I'll let you know if I can think of any " words of wisdom. " Take care. Look forward to hearing from you. Guest guest
Hello, Milky person... Of course others have had this before. You really expected to hear that you're the first??? Actually, what they're proposing is not a big deal, for most of us, anyhow. You're having work, best I understand it, only on the lower jaw. They'll take it apart, and move some of it up and some of it down. So ask your surgeon what you should expect, post op. And how he or she suggests you can manage it. If you've prepped by reading around, you know what's likely to be the outcome. Not a lot of swelling, maybe a lot of bruising. Maybe a lot of numbness. Bilateral (both sides); split (teasing the bone apart); osteotomy (cutting the bone). I suspect there's also a saggital in there somewhere, but maybe not. That one would mean they take it apart back to front. Or the direction of the cut. I think you want to know whether you'll be wired or banded or neither, post op. What your restrictions will be about food and eating. Whether you're likely to have a splint and for how long. Those answers will help you prep. Best, Cammie -- I still say the waiting is the hardest part. > Hi.. > I have posted on here I think once before. Guest guest
Hi Connie, In the papers I have received from the doctor it didn't say anything about a bilateral sagittal split just plain bilateral split with mandible rotation. I also suffer from assymetry and a crossbite. It is also really hard for me to keep my mouth open for more thatn like 2 minutes (like at the dentist). And sometime if I move my tounge over to my right to far (to get something out of my braces, I know gross lol) my jaw will stick then pop and hurt really bad, almost brings tears to my eyes. I only need to stay in the hospital for 1 day and my pre-op appoinment is on the 18th so maybe then I will know if I will be banded, wiered or neither. For now I have no clue. I took off only 2 weeks of work, do you think that is too soon? I will also ask my Doctor. Thank you so much, you are very helpful. > > Hi.. > > I have posted on here I think once before.
