Guest guest
Not at all unusual to be jumpy before surgery... I had lower advancement and sideways movement, but no hip graft. I was 56, near 57, back then... A mere kiddo, as I'll be 60 in November. Surgery was easy, thanks to my splendid, skilled doc, who'd done a lot of 'em before he hit me, and had worked out the system. I had no numbness, little swelling, good care overnight in the post- anesthesia recovery unit. Not wired, not banded, a big bunch of bruising, but hey -- who cares? it goes away quickly. I stayed outof work 4 weeks to recover, and my doc still didn't want me talking when I went back. But basically, it was a piece of cake. I would expect that you may have more troubles: swelling, because of the upper. Get a humidifier, and be sure you have some sudafed. Follow your doc's instructions about heat, ice, sleeping elevated, etc. Ask about pain relief for the graft donor site, which is often the most painful part. And get yourself a swanky, gorgeous walking stick -- hey, you're entitled, and it could be useful for rapping the knuckes of unruly youths! Besides, people tend to be more helpful when one uses a walking stick, however elegantly, I find. Best, C. > Hi I am a new member. Guest guest
Hi , I underwent my second surgery about 5 weeks ago. Upper and lower(Lafort I osteotomy on top and bilateral sagital split on lower) 1St surgery failed my bone splintered like a piece of wood when cut and the surgery was stopped. This was in 2001. This time around I spoke w/my surgeon about a possible graft like you are having. My surgeon said the graft surgeries are great since there is a solid piece of bone there it is less likely to be a failed surgery. I am 27 so can't say what the age difference will do (not much I am sure) but I can say you will look awesome after having it done. Just looked at my b4 pics on friday @ortho and it is wonderful. I am still swollen so the results aren't finished . ONE HUGE tip Ask your ortho to show you your b4 pics as soon as you see him/her after surgery. It will boost your spirits. Try not to stress 2 much it can hamper your recovery, take lots of deep breaths and PIG OUT NOW! GOOD LUCK > Hi I am a new member. Guest guest
Hi , I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to the group. While I am not among them, there are quite a few members I believe who represent your age group. YOu might also want to search in archives for others in the past. I know there have been members in the past about your age who underwent the surgery. I'm not sure, however, if they had the same surgery you are facing. Regardless, welcome and we'll look forward to hearing how everything is going for you. Good luck with your nervousness too- I know before my surgery that I would go through periods of anxiety, and then it would pass, then anxiety and then not, round and round! The anticipation is definitely one of the hard parts! Katja > Hi I am a new member.
