Guest guest
Hi Angie, Welcome to the group! I'm 26 and had the surgery 6 months ago for both upper and lower jaws. I am completely lactose intolerant, so I wanted to respond to your concern. I don't know if you have this product in Texas or one like it, but hopefully you are able to find it. It's called Lactaid and you can get it lactose reduced or lactose free in the whole range of milks- 2percent, low fat, fat free, etc. I lived on it after my surgery and still drink tons of it. I know there are other brands out there as well that " remove " the lactose, by adding the lactase enzyme to neutralize the lactose sugar. That is probably your best bet. If you are able to take pills later down the line in your post op recovery, the same company Lactaid, make enzyme supplement pills to be taken with meals including milk products. I also use those occaisionally. After my surgery, however, I wasn't immediately able to take pills, so that wasn't an option immediately. Some people are able to, so it will just depend for you. One things to be aware of... another member of this group and I were discussing lactose intolerance and I learned from that member that protein supplements have high Whey content which apparently in the whole process has a lot of lactose in it. So if you are tying supplements, be aware of that angle. Maybe you could try one and find out what happens. I've never tried it myself, so I can say one way or the other, but that is what I was told. Good luck and keep us posted on how everything is going for you. I bet after 31/2 years in braces you will be excited to get this surgery over with and get on with your life!
