Guest guest
My OD took a set of molds when he thought I might be ready for surgery which was like you, about 9 months into treatment. He sent them to my OS to evaluate if the surgeon likewise thought I was ready based on the models. As it turned out, I was ready so that was the only set taken by my OD prior to my sx. (I had another set taken at my preop for my OS). I do know however that if I wasn't considered ready by my OS at that time, I would have continued with ortho treatment, and then we would have tried all over again with new molds being forwarded for a new evaluation..... until I was ready for Sx. So! Based on my experience, this could be a one time thing, or a repeat occurance. I've read on this site of people who have multiple sets taken to keep the OS informed of progress, or for the OS to give input as to how treatment should progress. I guess that is also a possibility. I am at least the personality type that wants answers to my Many! questions. If you have questions, definitely ask him. If he is busy, make a point of asking receptionist to scheule you some extra time to touch base with your OD regarding your surgery progress. If the receptionist is aware, she can let the Dr. know you have some questions and he can make time for that. As it is your mouth, you should be kept informed. Sometimes, that is a matter of needing to assert yourself a little! Squeaky wheel gets the oil, as they say. Good luck and I hope you find out you're close or ready!! Let us know how it goes and I hope this was a little bit helpful! Katja > Hi, I was wondering, how many times does the orothodontist usually > take molds with the braces on before surgery.
