Guest guest
I have no idea what the percentages are. I can only speak for myself, and say that I am sooooooo much better then before SCD. I'm almost at the 2 year mark, but am going to stick to SCD. I don't ever want to go back to the way I was! Guest guest
Hi , I think it's impossible to say b/c we never know why people drop out of sight on these discussion groups--it could be b/c they stopped the diet or it could be b/c they're doing so well on the diet they don't need the support and help the group provides.... I will say that a LOT of people get better eating SCD, but that's pretty unscientific. Guest guest
I was also a little skeptical at first, but the diet has definitely helped me. I feel better and more in control of the disease. I did not 'get better' though. I still have some periods of blood or stomach aches, and I adjust the diet and medications in response. The diet definitely helps me but it's not a magic cure. He's been on the diet for over a year (and LDN for 4 months) and is a bit better, but nowhere near " cured " . We were hoping it would be " magic " , but it just isn't. He went off it for only 3 days and got worse immediately, so we know it is helping, but the bleeding has never stopped completely, except for periods when he's on Rowasa enemas and only eating chicken soup and applesauce. Guest guest
Yeah... How do you know when folks do it right? My experience w/ parents who inquired after a rare foods rotation diet when my kidz were young... or supposed research which was done and didn't prove the theory out is that they weren't motivated to do it RIGHT!!! It's a lot of trouble but how much trouble is a life worth?!!? Artful Carol Former me: From babyhood - CFS, Depression, Candida, Severe Chemical, Inhalant, and Food Allergies. Current me: Global Carb and Fungal Problems well-controlled past 30 yr. by extremely low-carb, no dairy, no grains allergy/anti-yeast diet, SCD 01/05. After 35 yrs. no need for allergy shots since SCD! Magnesium/Vits A, B, D, E/Evening Primrose, Fish, Olive, and Other Oils, Lecithin. 2 grown kids recovered from serious developmental problems which I believe were fungally-caused. > > 100 if they do it right - at least that's what i've seen on here in 3 years - ok maybe 99 - lol- seriously how can it not help > eileen
Guest guest
I rarely even check this group any more because life for my 11yr old and the rest of our family has changed so much due to her miraculous success with SCD!!She had every horrible Crohn's symptom (fissure, fistula, rash on shins, sores in mouth, horrible joint pain and cracking, horrible stomach pain, diarrhea, mood swings, eye problems and back aches) and missed 7 wks of school because of it. She was 8 and probably was healing faster than adults but the day she started SCD everything changed!!Within 3 days she was back in school. After 2 weeks she was cautiously back in soccer. We had many many ups and downs but we followed SCD for 15 months FANATICALLY.Since beginning SCD my daughter Bridget, now 11, has NEVER been back to a doctor (for Crohn's) , been on meds or missed a day of school. It was a long difficult road but we owe all her healing to SCD.I am NOT saying these are results to be expected but I am saying SCD saved the quality of my daughter's life. It allowed her to heal to the point where she can live a normal life just gluten and dairy free. She's a bit thin but not out of the norm and slowly gaining. If she shows even minor symptoms we cut back on carbs and she will always take probiotics and we still make the SCD yogurt. However, she's the fastest runner and can run the longest on her travel soccer team!!The rest of our family has also benefited tremendously because of what we've learned through SCD. We all went through the 'intro stage' and followed SCD for a while (3-6 mos).We have faced the fact that our whole family of 6 should not be eating dairy or gluten for life (some rare occasions like parties). I believe now eating gluten/dairy free has changed our lives forever.-I had four athletic children with asthma and none of them have it any more!-Acne was a problem ...GONE!-Allergies.......almost nonexistent.-All six of us were catching colds and flu's all the time.....now rarely to never are any of us sick. (and we're frequently around sick toddlers because I babysit) I haven't had even a cold in 3 years!-My digestion problems ....gone.I strongly suggest that anyone out there who is on SCD take a look at the rest of your family/friends and for signs of milk/gluten intolerance or allergy symptoms that I've described above. Do they have any autoimmune issues, ADD? I'm even question diabetes, autism, epilepsy, Tourette's and several other diseases that I've studied. Getting them off dairy and gluten NOW could change their lives and possibly save them from a needing to follow the complete SCD diet later.I am also certain that the chronic colic, constipation and infections my daughter experienced as an infant and young child were due to dairy and or gluten intolerance (she tests negative for dairy milk allergies...she's obviously intolerant). If only the doctors had suggested getting off dairy when she was young her whole life would have been so much healthier and had so much less suffering. Much of my extended family won't or took a very long time to believe me but those that have are so grateful. My brother FINALLY listened cut out dairy and not longer has chronic sinus infections. Doctors claim to have NO idea where all these autoimmune diseases come from. From years of my own research I think much of it starts with dairy and or gluten intolerances and progresses to leaky gut and finally some type of autoimmune or other disease.SCD is fantastic for healing and possibly/occasionally curing but I say we try to pass on the word to the rest of the world....'Get off the dairy and gluten before you reach the SCD stage!!' The doctors don't know, don't care or don't want us to know because they make no money simply telling patients to get off milk and or gluten. I'm not sure I just know MOST drs I talk to refuse to even listen. My children/family is passing on the word ourselves!...we have helped soooo many people! We talk about it to others around us daily. I'm glad we have turned this horrible experience into something very very positive. Guest guest
Thanks Donna, Crohn's is very tricky. From my research there's an entire spectrum of people that are helped from SCD. Some moreso than others. Sometimes, I suspect as in your daughter's case, Crohn's was completely caused by gut disbiosis due to some kind of food and then can be helped or even cured with SCD. Thanks for your story! . > > > > > > Hi, > > > > > > This is mainly for the crohn's veterans on SCD. > > > But from what I've read online I've seen articles that mentioned that there's an 80% chance of getting better on SCD. Guest guest
This was very humbling and encouraging to read... thank you for posting it Donna O'connor!!! I am inspired!!! I am persisting with the SCD, and could not agree more on the situation with dairy and gluten/grains. OUt of curiosity, do you and your family eat grains now/again?? Or is it just gluten you cut out?? I am learning so so much about true, real, deep gut healing, and it was lovely to read of a whole family, extended family and their friends all getting wonderful, lifechanging results! Keep spreading the knowledge and empowering people!!! Guest guest
I'm a big fan of scd! This is my 1 year mark and have had no flare ups for about 14 months and on NO meds! I'm also about to deliver a baby in couple weeks and plan on staying fanatically on this diet for atleast another 6 months! I do hope to introduce certain foods in the upcoming year but I'll go slow....Your message was so hopeful...Thank you!
