Good luck Jill stanglaterre wrote: Hi.. Well, I'm new to this site. So...I was wondering if it is possible to chat with some people here? I have had some surgery for my jaw. I don't remember the name of my " condition " at the moment - but I can always tell you more about it. It is quite strange sitting here, just writing this email to people I don't know and in this forum, which exist just for me to talk to other people with facial assymetry...! Well, I hope my english is good enough for you to understand, and I hope I'll figure out how to use this group in the future. Guest guest
Hi Diane! Now I remember the name of my " condition " - it is called hemifacial microsomi. Well, I have had 3 operations so far - the last one in May. I'm having another one i December... Well, I have had an operation when I was 9 years old. At that time I had a surgery for my right lower jaw - I had some ribbon put up there. Then when I was 11, I had an operation where my right lower jaw side was made longer... And then the one in May, where some bone from my hip was put up in my right jaw side. Back in May I had surgery on both left and right side, and both upper and lower side. I have had braces on for 1 ½ before the surgery, but I haven't got them on any longer. I am very satisfied with the result, even though I have had a lot of pain. Some parts of my face are still a bit numb, but I think it is going to get better... I hope so!!! What have you gone trough? And are you nervous about your forthcoming surgery? How old are you? ....And do you understand my english? :-) Take care, DIANE COATES wrote: Welcome, . My name is Diane and I'm from Oregon, USA. I'll be having lower jaw surgery on Nov. 17, w/possible upper and bone graft. I'll know more after my pre-op appointment next Wed. Are you happy with your surgery results? What did you have done? How was your recovery? Take care, Diane >From: " stanglaterre " >Reply-To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >To: orthognathicsurgerysupport >Subject: Hi everybody... Guest guest
Greetings, . Thank you for your reply. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been through so much. I hope your surgery in December will be your last. Good luck to you. Your English is great. Thank you for working so hard to learn our language. I have a daughter in middle school and one in high school and have stressed the importance of learning a foreign language. My older daughter fought me on this for a while, but now is becoming fluent in Spanish. She now would like to try out her skills on the young men of Spain!! I am getting very nervous about my surgery. I just wished they could put me to sleep right now. We were going to have a Costa Rican exchange student right after Christmas, but have decided to skip this year not knowing how my recovery may go. I have four kids 3 – 15 and work full time, so I have my hands full right now. Plus, my three older kids are very active in sports. I have been saving emails from people on this site regarding ice vs. heat, meals, advice, etc. I keep telling myself I need to start compiling a list of what I need to buy, pack, etc. I’ll be traveling about four hours for my surgery. My mom will be going with me. I am a little worried about how my kids will react when they see me, especially my three year old. Then, if it’s hard for me to talk, she’ll be even more afraid. I tried talking with her about it a little bit and she started to cry. Oh well, that will be her dad’s job. =) I’m sorry to hear you still have some numbness. I hope your feeling comes back. How did your recoveries go? Oh, and I’m 41! Guest guest
- Hello and welcome to this group! Glad to have you here. I have an underbite, have been in braces for nearly eleven weeks, and am 47. I will be having my surgery next June; a BSSO (Bilateral Sagittal Split (Ramus) Osteotomy) to set back my mandible, and a LeFort 1-piece (Maxillary Osteotomy) to bring my maxilla forward. I have had my underbite for nearly four decades, and decided to finally get rid of it, as I am having problems with chewing and talking. Just thought I'd write you and introduce myself. I'm the Diane from the state of Idaho; there is another Diane here who is from Oregon. Again, welcome to the group! Have a nice weekend! ~~~~~ Diane (Idaho USA) > > Hi.. > > Well, I'm new to this site. So...I was wondering if it is possible to > chat with some people here? > > I have had some surgery for my jaw. Guest guest
Hi Diane, Thanks for the warm welcome. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how to use this group - it is quite difficult for me to understand all of the terms used here. In Denmark we don't use the terms like that... Well, I have the condition called " hemifacial microsomi " . THe right side of my face is a bit underdeveloped, and especially my jaw- I have had 3 operations and one more to come in December. I'm 22, and have had operations at age 9, 11 and 21. In the US you have to pay yourself, right? Take care, dmd13cyto wrote: - Hello and welcome to this group! Glad to have you here. Guest guest
- Hello there! I can understand how difficult it is to understand the terms used on this site. Most of the terms I now use are words and phrases I learned in this group. The medical terminology can be confusing; I work in the medical field so it is somewhat easier for me. Just ask questions when you don't understand us, okay? // You asked if we have to pay for this surgery ourselves; well, some of us have wonderful insurance plans that cover the cost of the surgery, hospital, surgeon's fees, etc. And, there is MY situation. I work at a large hospital, but the insurance plan for its employees doesn't pay for this type of surgery, so I will be paying for this all by myself. My Surgeon has privileges at a small hospital here that charges alot less for the surgery than my employer does, and I will be going there for this surgery. I will pay a certain amount each month, to both my Surgeon and the hospital.// Again, , fell free to ask all the questions you need to.~~ Diane (Idaho) > > > > Hi.. > > > > Well, I'm new to this site.
