Hi Christie,

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am always amazed when I

see people posting the very next day post op! I cannot imagine

being able to do that! But I am so glad you are feeling well and up

to posting to us. That speaks volumes!

Good point about the compression being the source of most or your

post op pain. That is good to know. Even if I have it, I will know

now that it will not be left on for an extended time. So the

discomfort will be shortened.

Will watch for your posts. Just take it easy. From other surgeries

I have had, I know that when I feel better, I tend to overdo it. It

is extremely easy to do post op. So take care, and will hear from

you as you feel up to it.

Hugs,

Fran

Subject: Well i did it, I had my lower jaw

surgery yesterday

I had my lower jaw surgery yesterday at 8am and was out of the

hospital at 5pm that day. It wasnt at bad, probaly the worst part

was when I woke up. I wasnt sick but the pain was really bad and I

couldnt talk. Finally when they brought me back to my room the nurse

gave me some morphine, which helped a bit. I had a big bandage going

around my face, and they had it really tight to prevent swelling,

this is what caused most of my pain. Also I had drainage tubes

stitched inside the sides of my neck!! Which was sort of a shock too

me, because they never told me thats how they were going to do it.

(Probaly because they didnt want to scare me. So at 5pm they took

how the bandage, which made it feel SO MUCH better, and then they

took out the drainage tubes from the sides of my neck, which wasnt

fun at all and was really scary, but i was so relieved to be going

home. So now its the next day, Im pretty swelled up, but the pain

isnt bad at all, its more stiff and tight and I talk alright. I just

wanted to thank everyone for the support and help. If anyone has any

questions, feel free to msg me or email me.

Christie - Congratulations on making it to the other side; it sounds

like your surgery went smoothly. Was your lower jaw surgery for an

underbite (a set-back), or did they advance your jaw forward? I'm

having my surgery next June to correct my underbite. I'm having a

BSSO to set back my lower jaw and a Lefort 1-piece to advance my

upper jaw forward. My OMS hasn't said anything about drains being

placed in my neck, so I will ask him about that. I'm not as concerned

about my surgery as I am about waking up afterward, without my

underbite (I've had it for nearly four decades and is the only bite I

know).// Well, take care and let us know how you're doing when you

are strong enough to post.~~~ Diane (Idaho)

Hi there,

I too just had a lower jaw advancement (in Calgary on Oct 18th). I

had to have drainage tubes in for 4 days. Is your face still

swollen? Mine is quite a bit and it makes sleeping very

uncomfortable. Do you sleep on your back or side?

I find that the numbness is driving me crazy!

Yeah my face is still pretty swollen, but everyday it does get a

little bit better. At least I could only sleep on my back sorta at a

30 degree angle, now I can sleep on my side a little bit. I have litte

bit of numbness on the left side of my chin, but thats it.

- You and I are in the same boat: I'm having my surgery in

June. I have an underbite and will be having both lower and upper

surgery (BSSO to set back my mandible and LeFort 1-piece to advance

my maxilla forward and down in front). I know how scary all this is,

but it's better to learn all you can about it now; the more you know

about it, the less afraid you will be once your surgery time gets

here, and you will know what to expect both pre-op and post-op. What

type of problem do you have and what surgery are you having to fix

it? How long have you been in braces? Sounds like you and I will

be " surgery-buddies " ! Take care and try not to worry about it.~~~~
