Guest guest
I just found this forum a couple weeks ago and was really excited to hear that this surgery is not as rare as I thought it was. I have been told by 2 oral surgeons and several dentists that I should have orthognathic surgery to correct my lower jaw, which is about 9mm too long. My mother had the same surgery about 15 years ago and I still remember how much pain and suffering she went through post-op during the 6 weeks she was wired shut. The oral surgeon who removed my wisdom teeth earlier this year again recommend the surgery. So, again I'm seriously considering having the surgery. My situation is a little complex. I have lived/worked overseas in Kuwait for the last 3 years so I'm not able to see my oral surgeon in Indiana on a regular basis. I have found an excellent American oral surgeon, orthodontist, and dentist in Dubai (about 1.5 hour flight from Kuwait) but definitely want my oral surgeon in Indiana to perform the surgery. Do you think it would be possible to use an orthodontist overseas during pre-op? How often do you normally see the oral surgeon leading up to the surgery? Is this really worth it?? thanks for your help. I've really loved reading all your posts.
