Guest guest
I had it done years ago. I remember that I had go to the hospital to take the nuclear stuff and had to leave and come back for the test. Don't remember much about the length of it though. Guest guest
It's probably best to call the facility where the test will be taken and ask there. I found the first with a Google search on " nuclear thyroid test. " The second involved a search for " thyroid " at http://labtestsonline.org which is a really useful site which I refer to regularly. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
I don't know much about the thyroid but I am trying to learn. I read on one of the thyroid forums that there is an increase in thyroid cancer and they think it is from dental x-rays. They suggest pulling the cover? (can't think of the word for what they lay on you) up past your thyroid or under chin to prevent the thyroid from getting the x-rays. Sooooo, I'm wondering if this procedure is necessary or are they out to make a lot of money from the procedure? What is your problem with your thyroid? I am on 2 thyroid forums and they are very helpful just like this forum. If you want them, let me know. My body is all messed up due to crestor, statin induced pmr, and prednisone. Because of the above my pancreas and thyroid are not working right due to crestor and/or prednisone. I go to see an endocrinologist in a few days. I can't wait. I'm finding out that primary care doctors don't know much about the thyroid and that is why I am going to an endo. Today his nurse called, and said they want me to get a nuclear thyroid scan done at the hospital. When I looked it up online, I found people saying it takes anywhere from 1 hour to more then 4 hours to do this thing, and that you have to come back the next day for more pictures. Has anyone had it done? Should I be planning on spending half a day getting this procedure? I've had/have appointments up the wazoo this month, and don't want to book this thing on a busy day if it's a long test. Thanks in advance! > > Holly > Crohn's > SCD 12/01/08 >
Guest guest
I haven't had that particular test but I think I've had something similar in the long time frame. THey gave me a shot of something that would glow or something, made me go away for a couple of hours so it dispersed in the body, and then come back for the actual test. I think this may have been a bone scan or something. There are a number of tests where they inject some form of contrast medium. The 1-4 hours they quoted you, which sounds terribly imprecise, doesn't it?, might mean that they don't know just how fast it will be ready for the test, and/or it could mean they don't know how many they will have to take.
