Guest guest
Hi, I'm eighteen and a candidate for orthognathic surgery. I have to say joining this group eases the whole idea a lot b/c i'm stlil a little freaked and unsure of whether I should get it. One question though, for the insurance for the surgery, is it covered by dental insurance, or the general health insurance, since it's technically a surgery? thanks alot - kendra
Guest guest
Hi Kendra, For most people, it is covered by their medical insurance. Sometimes, especially since you are under 19, your parents insurance might cover your braces, or a portion of them. For most of us over 19, we have very limited or nonexistent orthodontic coverage. So if you are still on your parents plan, that could be a plus for you. It would definately be worth checking into anyway. Also when checking with your carrier, ask specifically about medically necessary orthognathic surgery. Some plans exclude this as a benefit, others do cover it. It will be important knowing what your coverage is to help you with your decision as well. Good luck with this. Please let us know what you find out and how you decide. WIshing you the best with this too! Hugs, Fran > > Hi, I'm eighteen and a candidate for orthognathic surgery.
