Guest guest
Ok, do I understand that you had just a barium swallow and no scope? It that's the case I'd ask for an endoscopy. My stretched stoma did not show up on X rays. And if your surgeon was willing to say that everything was just hunky dory based on only an X ray then I'd be looking for an opinion from a different surgeon. One who has done revisions. Tell us where you live and maybe someone will be able to recommend someone in your area. Don't be like me a wait until you have gained all your wait back before you decide that it might not be all your fault. Guest guest
I totally agree. A barium swallow is not always the best test. The endoscope is so much clearer. Guest guest
He transects so you cannot SLD. That's the advantage of waiting til the new models come out. I had an oldie. My docs changed their ways in 1996. I'm not sure my lungs would have continued to function for another 2 yrs, so better to have had my original in 94, lost all the wt, then fixit with a newer 2000 model Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
Janice, SLD's are actually a rarity, or so I've been told. Depending on the type of surgery it maybe more common or close to none existant. I had the VBG so there is more likely of a chance of me getting an SLD then other surgeries. I don't know if it occurs several years out of it is just diagnosed several years out. I didn't start really thinking there was a problem until I was about 2 years out because I could eat a lot more. If it had not been for that warning sign, I am not sure I would have ever known I had it. Guest guest
I also had a SLD. Repair and revision was done 3 years ago. Almost on the 2nd anniversary of my original RNY. I had gained 62 pounds back from my original loss of 110 pounds. I was NOT a happy camper. I had my doctor, while he was in there, by-pass more small intestine. He does not measure common channel, but measures how much he is by-passing at the top. So, I have 170cm by-passed and he gave me back my 1 oz. pouch. My symptoms were, at first...being able to eat salad (something that had NOT settled well originally), then being able to EAT more. After that it was the Heart burn that was killing me big time. Then I was revised. I lost back down to my original loss, PLUS another 20 pounds or so. Guest guest
? atonic pouch, meaning it wasn't allowing any " stretch " ??? How was this addressed in revision??? Two revisions, IMO, makes you a real warrior! I am SO glad to hear you have been well and thriving since the second! Good for you! Guest guest
Dear Lucille, Atonic pouch means without muscle tone.. My pouch had enlarged from 30 cc to over 200 cc and was adhered to my distal stomach, pancreas and liver. My pouch was removed and reconstructed to make a working pouch.. Thanks for the kudos! Guest guest
Hi , How did you know that your pouch had enlarged so much? I mean before they did a scope, if they did one. How long out were you before it happened? I'm so concerned at how much I can eat, I just can't get full and I'm always hungry. I'm not eating carbs, doing protein shakes and staying with protein. I can eat a huge bowl of salad, then have a chicken breast and then have about a cup of cooked broccoli. I can eat all of this in about a 1/2 hour. When I finally feel full, I feel it down below where I thought my pouch was, about a hand below my breast bone. I've gained almost 9 pounds, but I know it's because I'm over eating. So I stopped eating as much, but now I'm constantly hungry. I've had ulcer problems and strictures. I've had 7 endoscopies, with 6 dilations. I had my last endoscopy just before Christmas, to check on the ulcer. The ulcers are much better and there was no need to dilate. My dr. said that my pouch wasn't overly large, the size he normally sees and that the opening was not overly large. I started being able to eat more just before I had my last endoscopy, which was why I asked him. I'm really concerned that I'm not going to be able to maintain my weight loss, really scares the hell out of me. Thanks for your help and for taking the time to read such along post, Joanie Re: Re: Re: Back to the drawing board at 3yrs post > Dear Lucille, > Atonic pouch means without muscle tone..
