Guest guest
I highly recommend pulmonary rehab. I didnt want to go at first but learned to really like it. It was hard because I had to go 3 times a week and it really took up a lot of time - however - I learned a lot. I did have a problem with the bike they had me on. I ended up having the get a knee injected so be careful not to over do it I was diagnosed in June of 09 am on cpap with oxygen at night and use it only when I get short of breathe during the day. ( Cleaning, shopping etc. ) I have my second cat scan and breathing test next week to see how I am doing. The only meds I am on for pulmonary fibrosis is NAC
Guest guest
I would find out what the rehab consists of. You can do most of it yourself once you know what the program is, eg breathing exercises, etc. A Subject: Pulmonary RehabTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, January 8, 2010, 11:44 AM Hi Everyone, I don't post often because computers aren't my thing. I was diagnosed in Oct. with Hypersensitive Pneumonitis. My pulmonologist at University of Chicago wanted me to get into pulmonary rehab. We are wintering in Florida and tried to get it set up here. The rehab department says I don't qualify because I'm not bad enough yet. I'm not on O2 but I'd like to prevent as much progression as I can. Can some of you who have been in pulmonary rehab tell me what they do? I could start on my own until I get this straightened out with the insurance. Anyone else have this situation? What are the criteria for getting into rehab? Thanks in advance for any answers. This is a great source for information and I appreciate everyone who takes part. Guest guest
don rehab was one of the prescriptions that the pulmonary gave me when first diagnosed there are classes discussing lung diseases, mostly copd, but the rt's where i went were sensitve to the needs of pf, a whole series of health related classes then they start you on an exercise program and monitor blood pressure, heart and SAT i started without using O2, but then they gave me o2 to use while exercising -- it was 2 liters at the time Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Pulmonary RehabTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, January 8, 2010, 11:44 AM Hi Everyone, I don't post often because computers aren't my thing. Guest guest
Emma Many times it seems the doctors don't bring up pulmonary rehab as they should. Be sure you ask for it. > > Don.........Just wondering who you see at U of Chicago....I see Dr. Strek and so far she has not mentioned pulmo rehab and I was wondering about that. > > Patti Indianapolis IPF 2007 >
Guest guest
Don In order to get into pulmonary rehab here in Utah I had to track down a pulmonologist that would prescribe the rehab. The University rehab group did an incoming interview and baseline testing with me and looked at my records (which I always carry with me). They called the insurance company and cited the pulmo-docs prescription. I can appreciate your problems with insurance. I got real angry at one point and called the insurance company and requested a " case worker " to coordinate what I need and how to get it. It helped a lot. Since then we have changed insurance company and now I am back to square one. Good luck Don, and hang in there. You may need to contact your Chicago doctor if you are staying in Florida. The other option would be to get a referral from your Chicago Dr. to one in Florida that can help you get what you need.
