Re: My GI says the reason I'm doing well is because of my diet :-)

This is wonderful. I think some GI's don't recommend SCD because they don't know

much about it or fear rebuttal from colleagues ( who also don't know much about

it). However, they seem to show interest after they see success. Maybe this will

be the way to get more interest in SCD.

First, I told her I was doing well, and she asked what I attributed that to. I

said that I was very strict with my diet, and reminded her of what I ate on SCD.

After we ran through all the symptoms I was not having, she said she also

thought the reason I was doing well was because of diet. Can you believe that?

She also wants me to send her more info on SCD.

kids threw a hairy fit, but now eat mainly organic vegetables and home made

almond milk. She said that when the kids visit the grandparents (who give them

too much fruit and cookies), the kids come home and have a runny nose for a

week. She also said she just lent her vitamix to a friend to help their

constipated child get off sugar and onto healthy foods. We also talked about how

healthy soup is for a person. A GI who believes in good food, how about that!

That's awesome Holly! I know that you've historically not had good luck finding

supportive doctors. It must be nice for a change! So sorry to hear about the

liver enzymes. Keep us posted if they figure that one out?

Hooray! Maybe ONE day, the first question asked will be " What are

Her name is Dr. Cruz, and she's in Phoenix, Arizona. Very nice doctor!

Really listens, and spends as much time with you as you need.

Hi Holly,

That's great news! I'm fearful of telling my GI anything about SCD, because I'm

afraid he'd just laugh it off and dismiss it. It's wonderful to have a doctor

who is supportive of your diet.

I'm curious, does your GI know you got off Humira? I go back and for debating on

possibly getting off of it, but I think my GI would freak.

I hope you don't have to get the liver biopsy. Good luck with the colonoscopy,

but you probably have such a beautiful colon from SCD!

Take care,

Amber

Hi Amber,

My last GI would have laughed at SCD...actually he would have just glared. The

man had no bedside manner whatsoever, I think it might be physically impossible

for him to actually smile ;-).

My doctor knows I'm off of Humira. She was very worried initially, and really

encouraged me to stay on it. But now that I've been off it for 6 months (well,

actually over a year, but she doesn't know that), without a problem, she seems

less concerned. I live in a high risk area for fungal infections too, which is

one of the reasons I gave for not wanting to continue. I already got Valley

Fever/ pneumonia from prednisone a few years ago, I certainly don't need it

again! My doctor doesn't know about the LDN yet though. Maybe I'll tell her

after the colonoscopy :-).

I don't regret taking Humira. I really needed it at the time, and it helped get

me into a good place to be successful with SCD. But 1 year (actually a little

more) was enough.

Thanks for the good wishes :-). I hope I can report back here with great

results!

Thanks, I left my feedback. She deserved a much better rating then they had for

her. People really scored her down due to the long wait to get your first

appointment (it took me about 3 months or so), and the long waits in the waiting

room. But, she spends a lot of time with her patients, so you can expect a long

wait. Which is why I try to schedule first thing in the morning ;-).

Thanks for sharing, Holly. I shouldn't be in any rush to get off my medications

since I'm just started feeling good, but I was curious how you handled it. It's

too bad we are afraid to be open with our doctors about these things, but I can

understand why they want us to stay on medications. However, I hate that most

doctors totally dismiss the idea that diet could have any effect whatsoever, but

I suppose they're just going by what they were taught in med school.

Keep us posted if you tell your doctor about LDN. I'd love to know what she

thinks.

I'm also hoping for good results for you!! :)

Take care,

Amber
