Guest guest
I take prescription Prevacid 30 mg a day, every day. Every now and then, I do skip a few days, but I don't notice anything when I do. I will be 2 years out in March. My surgeons keep us on it for life. Guest guest
I'm taking Nexium. I ran into a problem with an ulcer. I had horrible GERD before the surgery and was on Prilosec for years. I also had my Lap RNY 2/02. If I go for awhile (a day or two) without the Nexium, I feel it. Guest guest
I was taking Prilosec but it stopped working for me. Did 3 weeks on Nexium and doc says if heartburn returns then I need to be scoped. I have had problems with something like heartburn since just a few months out and my surgery was just over 3 years ago. I've taken all of the OTC stuff but it stops working after a while and I have to switch kinds. The pains isn't exactly like before surgery but it is there- an aching pain high up like just under the breasts right in the middle of my lower chest/high abdomen. Easy to mistake it for hunger and I find that I tend to eat to try to make it go away. No heaving- just aching. Guest guest
Nina, I started taking Prilosec about a yr and a half out. Switched to Nexium about two years ago just because doc said it was even better. I see no real difference. I'm 10yrs, 8mos PO. I have no problems taking it but miss a day or two and I am physically miserable! I feel hungry, I eat, I throw up, I have dry heaves, much pain and if I go a week without I feel like it has effected my whole body. Twice without for a week and both times my kidneys found themselves infected. I think the acid worked it's way through them. Go figure. I had my gallbladder out with my open RNY. () Seriously, sorry to hear of your pains. Nexium, by the way, is just Prilosec (on which the patent has expired and is now sold OTC) with a slightly altered side group (a little piece of chemistry that is attached to the main body of the drug) so that the manufacturer (Glaxo?) can get a new patent and charge outrageously high prices. > have had problems with something like heartburn since just a few >months out and my surgery was just over 3 years ago. Do you still have your gall bladder? Could it be? Or, a marginal ulcer in your stoma? (Scoping would reveal the latter, but your new anatomy would not allow the scoping to get to your bile ducts to rule out the former.) If you should have an ultrasound to look for gall stones, and if they do not jump out at the technician, ask to stand up, because that sometimes reveals stones that cannot be seen while you are lying down (happened to me that way). >Easy to mistake it for >hunger and I find that I tend to eat to try to make it go away. Guest guest
Thanks, Steve- you provided some food for thought. Yes, I do still have my gall bladder and no, no one has ever suggested that it might be that. I'll ask. I've battled this type of pain for years and years altho it did lessen once I quit the cigarettes and changed slightly after my surgery. Thanks again. Alice The Loon RNY 12/28/00 Hmmm. . .
