Hey does anyone know what happens to insurance coverage if an employee

is terminated? Does the coverage continue through the rest of the

contract or does it terminate immediately?

I can tell you what happens when you leave a company. The insurance

ends right away, but usually you have a period of 90 days to submit

any claims (eligibility up to the date of resignation). I believe it's

also a requirement (at least here in Ontario, Canada) to give you a

certain length of time to decide whether or not you want to continue

certain coverage, such as life insurance, on a private pay basis. And

obviously the latter also applies to any vested pension benefits or

RRSP funds you or the company may have contributed to.

To add to what said, usually you have the option to " extend " your

insurance if you need it. This can usually be done for 12 - 18 months

and can be very costly. This information should be provided in your

insurance policy.
