Guest guest
Hi , I would ask your OS about it. Mine just offered to do this along with the upper and lower surgery. My septum is way off on the lower part, and also to the other side on the upper part of the septum (kind of a " z " shape). The OS will do the lower septum reconstruction along with the jaw surgery, and then at a later surgery, I will have a plastic surgeon do the upper reconstruction. And even though it will be covered by insurance. I had no idea I even had this problem, though I have had breathing issues for years. I just thought they were part of my allergies (and that is also part of the problem), but what I have learned is that when these repairs are done, many people with allergies find alleviation of many of their allergy symptoms. I am actually looking forward to this part of my surgery process. Let us know what you find out. Hugs, Fran > Someone mentioned a deviated septum. I also have a slight d.s. and I have always wondered if that might be part of my problem. Wonder just how deviated you have to be to create a problem w/drainage? Mine is NOT that bad, although I did have an ENT say I should get it straightened. Can they do this at the same time as the jaw surgery? If so, how in the world would one breathe afterwards? > > >
Guest guest
Hi , I was born with a cleft lip and palate which resulted in a small nose and jaw. My surgeon was able to do major nose reconstruction the same time as jaw surgery. My first question was how will I breathe afterwards? He said that I would be able to breathe afterwards. And he was right I was able to breathe after the surgery, though I was on oxygen for the first few days. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
Hi , I also have a deviated septum, and I will have that corrected at the time of my surgery. I debated on it, but since my insurance is paying for the hospital and the anesthesia and that I would already be " recovering " , I may as well. I am scheduled for surgery October 18. My doctor told me that he has done many of those together, and my orthodontist also suggested that I have it done at the same time. I am only having lower done, but understand that my nasal passages would already be pretty congested and that it would not be much difference. Cost-wise depends on your doctor. I was quoted around $4000, but I was able to get him to reduce the rate a little. I'll let you know how it goes, but I think I'll be glad to have gotten it all done at the same time. Guest guest
Hi, I had my deviated septum taken care of at the same time as the jaw surgery. My OS did not have any problem, he kept the tube up the nose and made an incision inside my mouth and got to the nose that way. Here is what I had done: Bilateral sagatical split osteotomies, genioplasty, septoplasty (for the deviated septum) and he extended the upper lip. I am now at 7 weeks post op and doing great. The first month is pretty tough with the septoplasty because the nose is very sore and sneezing hurts. But it was the best feeling to be able to breath through my nose. For me, this was the best thing I could have done. If you have any questions, let me know. Guest guest
Hi, I just had the same thing done on Monday, and my surgeon said that is why my nose is bleeding so much right now. They didnt tell me anything about this pre-op actually, so I was a little suprised. But w/ everything else going on, its not a big deal. So, anyone with this experience, I'd like to know what to expect at this point also! The surgery wasnt that bad, and they fixed it with my jaw surgery (upper 3-piece lefort, palate expansion, 4 wisdom teeth). Everything that I feel just feels like really bad sinus pressure, that I hear will go away in a few days. Anyway, please keep me updated if anyone has gone through this! Thanks Clare > > Hi to all, > I have a deviated septum and have been told last year that I needed > surgery to correct my nose. Can that be done at the same time as my jaw > surgery? Guest guest
Hi , I had upper jaw surgery, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone and bone graft surgery done the same time. My surgeon said that as long as I was happy with what he was doing then he was more than happy to do it all the same time. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
