Guest guest
Good evening. Does any other post oper's take this vile stuff? I am really having a hard time trying to stomach this. I have to take 4 tbls every 6 hours untill gone. I have been taking this for 8 days and It looks like I have enough for another 8 days left. My question is what can I do or drink afterwards that will kill the taste. I hope any of you with your upcoming surgerys don't have to take this. This stuff is just plain bad
Guest guest
Irish, Try taking Cleocin with Boost Breeze. It's a juice based Boost that is available at Walgreens. Cleocin is awful tasting, the only way I could stomach it was with it mixed in about 3-4 oz Boost Breeze, and a water chaser afterwards. I was fortunate by day 5 or 6 I could stop all antibiotics. Hope this helps a little. Shirley
Guest guest
Dennis, THe first 4 days after my surgery I was on IV antibiotics then the surgeon and his team decided that I should start oral antibiotics in hope that I would start drinking more! As I had some really bad problems trying to drink after my surgery. I was given Cleocin once but I choked and it all came out, but the taste was there for hours and I couldn't drink anything to get rid of it as my surgeon put me on a nil by mouth until he could investigate the cause of my problems. BUt I did sneal a small ammount of oasis that got rid of the vile taste. I was fortunate in some ways to have my antiobiotics administered through IV for nine days after my surgery. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort. Guest guest
Thank you Shirley and for the responces. Today I will try the boost breeze to see if this helps. I thought I was all done but my wife came home from our local pharmarcy with about 8 more bottles. I couldn't believe it but she said that is what the doctor wrote up. I would rather just through this stuff in the garbage but I guess there is a reason why my doctor wants me keep taking it. Guest guest
Dennis, yes I had to take this stuff and I have to say, IT WAS THE WORSE PART OF ALL THE RECOVERY! I used to dread when the time to take it would come. I learnt quickly that the taste needed to be chases away quickly with something. At first I used Vanilla flavoured or chocolate flavoured boost or ensure, then I switched to pineapple juice (incidentally this is supposedly very good for reducing the swelling) and some days luke warm tea. I also found tonic water was good. I'm just grimacing at the thought of taking the antibiotic. I truly feel for you!! Big virtual hug coming your way! Sara > Good evening. Guest guest
Ahh Thank you Sara. Only 6 more bottles left. I just took my 6 hour dose about 25 min ago and I sluged it down with coffee and that seemed to help so maybee that is a trick to. Anyway I am sure glad I am over the hump. Day 10 coming up for me. I finally got to sneek a peek in my mouth and I am very happy as to what I see. I can't wait untill this splint is out so I can really see the final resuts! Guest guest
Dennis, it's worth asking your doctor whether you HAVE to keep on taking the antibiotics. I know some group members have done this and were told they could stop after 8 days. I had to take my antibiotics for 12 days but my doctor told me that usually the amount of antibiotics they pump into you at the hospital should be enough to fight off any infections. The extra doses post-op are precautionary. I found the antibiotic really did a number on my appetite and I lost A LOT of weight in the first week so my doctor was willing to lessen up on the doses in order to get me to eat more. It's worth a try if you really can't stomach it any longer! Sara > > Good evening. Does any other post oper's take this vile stuff? I am > > really having a hard time trying to stomach this. Guest guest
Hi Sara. I acually as of my dose this morning I stopped myself. About 2 hours after I had taken my dose I started up with cramps and severe Diareha. Sorry to be so graphic. So I am going to call him in the morning and tell my doctor about it. I think that its the Cleocin that is doing this to me. Guest guest
Definitely sounds like the antibiotic having side-effects on your stomach which is common when you're on the stuff for a while. Usually taking some Vitamin B helps restore the " fauna " in your stomach. I hope your doctor says that you can come off the antibiotics. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
