Go for it, . Even fewer carbs in 100% cream (not Half 'n Half).

Don't sweat the fats; your cholesterol is way too good to even worry

about that. --Steve

, when I first saw the half a cup of half and half, I thought

wow, thats alot of calories and fat, however, if you are not having a

problem maintaining your weight and your cholesterol is fine, then I

do not see why you would have to give it up. I'm a believer in not

denying ourselves treats, and for learning moderation, or in other

words, how to work in the treats while maintaining good health and

weight. Its a balancing act that I am forever learning how to juggle

and not one learned as a pre-op!

I used to make that in college (except I used lots of sugar in it - sweet &

creamy!) Mmmmmm. Haven't done it in years though and I don't even have a

French press pot anymore. I can't use 1/2 & 1/2 now because of the 1/2

that's milk (lactose intolerance - OUCH!), but now you have me craving that

yummy drink. I think I'll have to buy some cream and brew a pot of strong

coffee. Maybe add some Cool Whip on top. And of course use Equal instead

of the sugar.

half and half

Dear Friends,

I'm sitting here on my 2nd fabulous cup of coffee. I make it in a French

press, then pour it into a big mug with about half a cup of half and half

which has been heated in the microwave. I add one Equal, just so it's a

" diet drink. "

I used to have one of these a day, now I have to have two. When I'm not at

home, Starbuck's makes a pale imitation called a breve latte.

I feel guilty about this and think I should cut it back to one or none for

my New Year's Resolution. 2002 Resolution was *only French wines* in 2002.

I maintained that for a while, but now I don't even drink. And since I

don't drink anymore, I can't begin to share what my 2003 Resolution was, but

let me assure you, it was *quite* fun and successful. <EG>

My weight is as close to perfect as I can imagine, my cholesterol is barely

over 100. Am I insisting on the need to suffer? Should I just enjoy it and

die happy? Or is this stuff really bad for me? On one hand, I think since

we don't absorb as much fat, it's just a perk of the surgery, to be taken

along with downsides, like stinky poop and no Italian cream cake.

The vestiges of obesity and self-flagellation may never end. It's all much

better, but it's still there a bit.

Hi ,

First off - thank you for everything you do...you have been an inspiration to me

for many years.

As far as the coffee goes - I decided a long time ago that as long as I wasn't

gaining weight I would continue with my daily decaf w/half & half. I am four

years out - never hit the insurance chart goal - but am very happy at a size 12

(the weight isn't as important to me - we all know about increased bone and

muscle density). I use splenda or sweet & low. I don't eat sugar, I don't eat

white flour and I don't eat fruit. I do this because I feel better than when I

do eat them.

Enjoy your coffee!

A French press is a glass beaker you put coarsely ground coffee into, pour

boiling water over the top and let steep for four minutes. Then you push

down this plunger which is actually a strainer to strain out the grounds.

It's just stronger and richer, but really just plain old coffee. The

plunger has a springy-looking coil around it to trap the grounds.

,

I agree that we need to overcome that guilt over everything we put in

our mouths -- because it IS perfectly okay to eat and is, in fact, necessary

-- we are completely irrational if we feel guilt over fueling our bodies. But,

it is rare that we feel guilt over lean chicken breast and green beans -- the

guilt typically comes from those things that we consider " excess " or

indulgent -- the sugar, the bread, the popcorn. I know that I vacillate between

feeling of guilt and feelings of entitlement when it comes to some of those

indulgences.

I do think that we need to keep a healthy amount of " worrying " though

-- part of the vigilance that we probably all need in order to stay where we

have fought so hard to get. I know that in my head I believe that if I stop

worrying, it will be a license to eat with abandon -- that my guilt and worry

keep me in check. Of course, my psychiatrist tells me it is unlikely that I

would go so far overboard if I ditched the guilt and worry -- but of course, I

find it almost impossible to believe him -- it is so firmly ingrained in me to

not trust myself with " permission " to eat. Of course, it doesn't STOP me from

eating a lot of those things -- it just leaves me with the guilt! Punishment

for eating perhaps, more than a deterrent to eating? Thoughts for me to

ponder on the couch!

Because as morbidly obese people we were made to feel guilty about

every darn thing! Up to and including starving orphans in Korea,

Viet Nam, Cambodia, you fill in the country! If we don't feel like

we are doing something wrong we think that the powers that be will

take our weight loss back and make us M.O. again. Enjoy your coffees

up to and until the weight begins to creep up again and then cut

back. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

nothing traumatic about being a fine, fine, older woman. As long as you know

you are. Know what you know. Do what you know. Keep doing it. With tenderness

By the way, I use heavy cream, feel guilty go back to half and half, feel

guilty, go back to heavy cream feel guilty, use milk, get sick... its a

vicious cycle.

I've got a secret message for myself... its not the cream, its the other 50

bad carbs I'm shoveling in. I keep getting lost, you'd think I'd know the

way by now...
