Guest guest
Ian should be admitted the day before surgery and put on D10. If they want to give him Pedialyte, that is okay, but THERE IS NO GLUCOSE IN IT!!!! He will crash. Insist on the admission on the 17th. I sure wish I could be there for you. Know that I will be in mind and prayer. And make sure you call me! Jodi Z

Guest guest
Hi In Australia we do things a bit differently because our Drs do not use an IV without desperately needing to, while child is awake. We have learnt along the way that if we keep Liam on his neocate (formula) till midnight the night before surgery, then swap to apple juice or pedialyte with polyjoule/polycose added to it till 2/3 hours prior to surgery, then when he is put under they put in an IV with dex till he recovers. Im asuuming here you will keep the NG tube in which would enable you to do all this. Also, I can only say from my experience, if you can avoid the trauma of having the IV placed while he is aware all the better, who ever got an RSS vein first go!!! Remember the only reason for fasting is an empty stomach to stop aspiration, if you have an NG and when you have the g tube, it is very easy to check the stomach is empty, and empty if necessary before OT. Not trying to talk you out of the IV the night before, but if you come up against a brick wall that wont listen, this is a good option, and safe for our kids. Take care Jody(mum to Liam RSS 4.5yrs 11.2kg gtube, losec ght, and Cameron 7) > > > > Ian should be admitted the day before surgery and put on D10. Guest guest
Jody - I thank you for your response and will definately add this to my list of " things to do " in the event I need more ammunition! Thank you so much! - H > > > > > > Ian should be admitted the day before surgery and put on D10. > If > > they > > > want to give him Pedialyte, that is okay, but THERE IS NO > GLUCOSE IN > > > IT!!!! Guest guest
Yes, . I agree with Jodi on this. I know hospital stays are the worst, but you will be worse for the wear if you don't have him admitted the night before. This is the protocol we use with each of 's surgeries and this is what works the best. And, remember when Ian was on D10 and his sugar was still a little wacky?? Imagine what would happen if he only had Pedialyte for that long before placing an IV! No way. Have him admitted the night before. JR > > Ian should be admitted the day before surgery and put on D10.
