If so, it is not blanched almond meal, which I would recommend getting from Lucy's Kitchen Shop. I wouldn't be eating whole nuts in the first month you're on the diet. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Yes it does. It's not blanched. Is that the difference? Am I allowed to have a blanched one? I am afraid to eat it now. ;-) Thanks, > >I am not sure though because the SCD book said > >that after the initial diet for 5 days one can > >have a muffin for breakfast that is baked from the almond flour. > > , > > Does the Trader Joe almond meal have little dark > flecks in it? Guest guest
That is the difference- the blanched has no skins (therefore no flecks). You would be surprised at how much of a difference it can make. I still struggle with D, but I do MUCH better with the blanched flour- I even make my own almond butter out of it since there aren't any store bought brands without the skin I would definitely try the blanched flour- hopefully it won't cause any pain! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone > > Yes it does. My sister (also SCD) served me a cake made with TJ's almond flour several years ago, and I had a problem with it (although she, the lucky rat, did not) even though I was eating blanched almond flour with no problems. It's a nuisance to order on-line, I know, especially when you're lucky enough to have a TJs nearby! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
Awesome. I will give it a try. What about coconut flour? Is it more gentle compared to the almond? Thanks! > > > > Yes it does. It's not blanched. Is that the difference? > > Am I allowed to have a blanched one? Guest guest
I got some blanched almonds today in Whole foods, I guess I will try to grind it up in the food processor. I will need to order some online to try it too. ;-) thanks! > >Yes it does. It's not blanched. Is that the difference? > >Am I allowed to have a blanched one? Guest guest
There is a blanched almond butter called Almondie. Digestive Wellness has it, not sure about other places. It's delicious and very bland, and also very expensive. So if your FP or blender will handle it, it would be much cheaper to make your own. That is the difference- the blanched has no skins (therefore no flecks). You would be surprised at how much of a difference it can make. Guest guest
That's a great question. The pecanbread stages have nut flours listed before coconut flours so I waited. In fact, I just got my first bag of coconut flour and can't wait to try it. But, I have heard others on the list say that coconut flour was actually easier on their gut than nut flours. It does seem like for every answer there is some exception, huh? -Joanna > > Awesome. I will give it a try. What about coconut flour? Is it more gentle compared to the almond? Guest guest
Almondie is AMAZING (and AMAZINGLY expensive). If you can't tolerate the other nut butters or coconut flour right now, it'd be worth it for a little treat. It's so good and SO easy on your stomach! -Joanna > > There is a blanched almond butter called Almondie. Digestive Wellness > has it, not sure about other places.
