Guest guest
Hello everyone I had Adam at the endo today. It has been 6 months since his last visit. In 6 months he grew 2.7 cm--apparently the normal child (pre-puberty) grows on average 2.7 cm in 6 months so he is charting exactly as he should be; however I was hoping for more. Sigh. The big bang of this visit is the doctor has given me a prescription for Adam to begin testosterone treatment. At the age of 13 and no puberty in sight (we did a bone age today and he said he is reluctant to give me EXACT numbers but he said last year Adam was 5 years delayed and now it's around 4 was all he would say)......except for the fact that with that incredible bone age delay, he said he is NOT going to begin puberty at all. The endo. thought he could " cheer " me up by saying we have so much more grow time (yes, I know that, but at what expense to Adam's social/emotional health???) Anyway, he was all gun-ho that I run and fill the prescription right then and bring the vial back for them to give him the first injection--I said " maybe " and came home. I would like to think on it a bit. I have done just a real quick scan (one article) on google re: testosterone in children and I was reading about the one major benefit being weight gain and muscle mass development. Hmmm, that sounds positive. In any case, it will take 2 or 3 days to get the vial and then I have to make an appt. with his ped. to have the shot administered (once a month for 6 months), so I have time to do a bit more research and thinking. So his grand stats are: 141 cm (55.5 " ) and 34.9 kg (76.9 lbs) Oh besides doing the bone age today, we also did blood but I didn't get the results back yet (he did all the usual suspects in the blood). Last year when we did this, it took over 2 hours for the x-ray wait alone, so today we went real REAL early and the blood AND x-ray were BOTH done 20 minutes after our arriving there. We had ages and ages to kill!! Deb
