Guest guest
Tonya- I don't think being banded is a silly thing to be worried about. I'm 4 days from surgery, and that's the part that scares me the most, too. I never even thought to ask him not to do it. I just assumed it was inevitable. He did say that it won't be terribly tight. But, kudos to you for going for it! I think I saw a post from you one day when you said you have BC/BS of Alabama. I do, too, although I live in Mississippi. Do you live in MS or AL? My surgery is going to be in Mobile. Also does the " 38 " mean that you are 38 years old, because that's how old I am! Anyway, I'll keep you in my prayers as we both head into the home stretch!!! Tonya I don't mean to sound like an ass, but just suck it up. Seriously. If bands are going to aid in the healing process and make for a more efficient recovery, then let him put them in. I'm assuming you're a grown man, and to be worried about such a trivial thing is silly. This is the kind of surgery where you don't want to make any compromises; you've got to do everything to a T. I'm getting surgery on the 12th, a little after you, so I wish you luck. Take care.
Guest guest
I was appalled to read your reply to Tonya's post!!! First of all I'm pretty sure " Tonya " is NOT a " grown man " . And secondly, maybe you missed the name of this site; it's called the orthognathic surgery SUPPORT group! There was nothing at all supportive about your post! Didn't your mama ever tell you that if you can't say something nice, just keep your mouth shut? Anyway, please be more considerate of other's feelings. We all have our own concerns about this surgery and the recovery. Obviously, you have some questions (or dare I say fears) as well, or you wouldn't be on this site in the first place. I hope all goes well with your surgery on the 12th, and remember that we are all here to support you. Angel > > Well, I did it. I convinced my doctor not to band me shut. Guest guest
Tonya/Angel, I have to say that I wasn't really worried about the being banded shut until it was decided that I would be getting the Septoplasty. The thing that is scaring me is that, if I am banded shut AND my nose is all stuffed with cotton and stuff from the septoplasty, how am I supposed to breath? I don't think that ANY fear of surgery is a silly fear...you have every right to have ANY reservation and to express that fear to your OS/OD. Congrats Tonya on not having to be banded! Guest guest
Woops, I interpreted tonya's name as TONY AG. hahaha And I apologize for coming off so brash... I totally didn't mean any malice towards you in any way. I, as a fellow surgery patient, want to see you all do as well as possible. > > > Well, I did it. I convinced my doctor not to band me shut. Guest guest
Hi all, I had a septoplasty and turbinectomies when I had my lefort three years ago. I was banded shut but it was no big deal. There was nothing stuffed in my nose when I woke up from surgery. Actually I could breathe better than I could before surgery since I could breathe through my nose for the first time in my life. Also if you are congested, you can still breathe through your mouth even banded or wired shut. There are still enough gaps between your teeth to do so. I hope this eases some of your fears. Good luck with your upcoming surgeries. > > > Well, I did it. I convinced my doctor not to band > > me shut. Guest guest
Austria- That would scare me, too. But I'm sure your doctor is not out to suffocate you! Just ask him what he's going to do to help you breathe during your recovery. Maybe there's a cool secret he hasn't shared with you yet. Hopefully, someone who has experienced this situation will read your post and offer some words of wisdom. Sorry I don't have any great advice, but I will be praying for you!
