Guest guest
Granulation tissue looks like a red, raised area around the tube site. It kind of forms a wall-like growth. Max used to get it very badly. It would ooze and even bleed. The first time it bled, I became very concerned because it bled so darn much. It's easy to get rid of the tissue. You need these sticks that look like long matchsticks (man, the name has slipped my mind!!!). You have to cauterized the tissue with them just by placing the tip against the tissue. The tissue immediately turns gray/black. BUT you must be careful not to touch good tissue/skin. It burns. One time Dr. H. became too aggressive in treating Max's granulation tissue and she really burned him. Not only did he need cream for the burn, he needed pain meds. Just be careful and lightly touch the area. Jodi Z The stuff is called silver nitrate!
Guest guest
My daughter has a G-tube placement (actually a mickey button). I have dealt with granulation tissue with her many times before. It is very pink, or red, tissue that looks very " new " to the eye. When her tissue gets bumped, it tends to bleed or become very irritated. I saw the surgeon about it and she applied some silver nitrate to it to " burn " the tisse and it has been great since. I have some silver nitrate at home so that I can do it if it comes back. It irritates the skin when you apply it, but within an hour, my daughter was able to be tube fed with no problem. The surgeon said that the granular skin is a good thing because it shows signs of a healthy body. It's just not the right time to be doing it. She says this is what we want to see when the button is removed. I hope this helps. - mother to Devan (7 mos - newly diagnosed through the genetics test as RSS UPD7, g tube, 10lbs 5oz 23 inches) and to Tyler age 5 no RSS anderkat3 wrote: Hi. Looks like Autumns infection from g-tube stitch is back, an abcess moved to the surface by the button but never totally went away. she is back on antibiotics and is seeing the surgeon thursday. they said could also be some granulation tissue...what does it look like? i am very curious if that is what it is or if it is skin and stuff leftover from unhealed abcess... mom to Autumn 22.5 mos RSS, Summer 5 mos SGA, Ocean 3.5 yrs, Skye 7 yrs.
