Guest guest
Hi Joyce, I think we can commiserate together. I've had bronchitis since October. I've been on Leviquin, Augmenten, Doxycycline, and now the second round of Omnicef. It is not working this time either but will hold it down until my appt with my new pulmo on Monday. I won't even mention asking for that stick of dynamite to eat due to the absence of any microbes in my GI tract. The Urgent Care doc got a chuckle out of that one! He is the one baffled by why I have bronchiectasis. Absolutely NOBODY wants to treat me. They just look bewildered and Rx another useless antibiotic. Had I not found this pulmo, I guess I'd be headed for Vegas, 2 hours away, to get care. I am hopefully but guardedly optomistic. Activity sends me into spasms of coughing which results in muscle spasms around my rib cage, in my abdomen, neck pain.... the list goes on. We won't even mention the taste of aging road kill that goes with the coughing. Misery loves company? If that's true, then here ya go! Funny thing is that I told my primary care doc that my pulmo left town, he knew I was having a time with this bronchitis, and just this week, suggested I see the pulmo that I didn't know existed before November. Why on earth didn't he refer me months ago!!! ann > > this bronchitis feels a lot worse than the pf right now > > at least with the pf and o2 i can be active > > this has me homebound > > excessive coughing, excessive mucus, some low grade fevers > runny nose > > the mucinex makes me sleep alot > > tried to walk the dog yesterday, didn't get very far, just across the street, when the coughing started > > glad he is small and paper trained > > > this was the first week in a very very long time that i had something scheduled for everyday, i couldn't do any of it except for wednesday when i saw the pulmonary > > linda zion -- how long did it take for your bronchitis to go away last year? > i think you were hospitalized with it too? > > Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania > Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 > www.transplantfund.org >
Guest guest
Pink, YES , I was in the hospital for 3 days with acute bronchitis in March. It really took many months before I was back to "me" again. The prednisone had been really jacked up ( from my usual 10mg to 60mg) and it took quite a while to get back down. The coughing was miserable for a while and no medication worked as well as plain tea with honey! I ran a fever too...usually my "normal" is 96...I was at 99 for several weeks. It took three different antibiotics to finally get things back to OK.Basically I was on antibiotics straight for a month! So...take care...rest...loads of fluids..be good to yourself. Remember we all take longer to heal because of the PF. Even now, my Penn pulmodude thinks that the inflammation seen on the most recent HRCT is a result of the bronchitis! Guest guest
thanks for your response in the er on sunday, they gave me steriods via IV, then upped my prednisone to 30 mgs for 3 days, saw pulmonary on Wed and we are weaning the prednisone again was on a z-pack take mepron daily anyway have been taking mucinex to break up the mucus, but it makes me sleep a good portion of the day example took it about 10 or 11 last night, woke up about 6 am, was asleep on sofa by 9 am till almost 1pm er also gave me albuterol inhaler i have discovered if i use it during a coughing spell, even though i don't use it correctly, it helps calm down the cough Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: bronchitisTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, December 18, 2009, 1:08 PM Pink, YES , I was in the hospital for 3 days with acute bronchitis in March. It really took many months before I was back to "me" again. Guest guest
sorry you have been sick for so long now i am beginning to know what to expect the literature i received from the er about bronchitis indicated that a cause could be envirionmental, pollution it reallly became noticeable after the smoke alarms went offf while broiling a steak all of that stuff in the air irritated my lungs then if it's viral, anti biotics won't help, just if it's bacterial hope you feel better soon Pink Joyce R (IPF 3/06) IFA 5/09 Pennsylvania Donate Life Listed 1/09 Inactive 4/09 www.transplantfund.org--- Subject: Re: bronchitisTo: Breathe-Support Date: Friday, December 18, 2009, 11:19 AM Hi Joyce,I think we can commiserate together.
