Guest guest
Cori, Thanks for your response!! Question, How were you able to eat/drink with the splint? Also, how did that go with the splint and all when you threw up? dp cori w wrote: I had a 2-piece Lefort 7/20. Please feel free to visit my picture site and my oral fun blog to read about my experience. I am still updating both but there is alot of info out there. http://www.coriandron.com/cori/surgery/surgery.html http://corisoralfun.blogspot.com/ Cori > I am having a leforte 1 maxillary osteotomy on September 9. Guest guest
Hi le, I was on a no chew diet the whole time my splint was in (it was removed TODAY, whoohoo!). I was not wired or banded so I had no issues eating, drinking, kissing or even throwing up (though that wasn't much fun in general). I did use zip-n-squeezes to drink the first few days while I was at my most swollen, but transitioned easily to a cup after 6-7 days. Personally I liked having my splint in, I do miss it a little (though chewing is making up for that VERY fast!), it was nice to know where to bite down/where my teeth went and I felt secure in it like everything was being held together and was where it was supposed to be. What saved me from going crazy was figuring out an eating system. I had no food restrictions and could open my mouth pretty wide, I just couldn't chew. I quickly figured out that using a food chopper and chopping my food worked WONDERFULLY. Blending works if you need to do it, but when you use a choppy you still have some texture to your food. I had no issue going 6 weeks once I figured that one out, though it did get old. Preping food to eat would takes FOREVER. blah. Good luck!
