Guest guest
Dyane, Peggy & the rest of my air family, Thank you all for the nice comments & for not laughing when you saw the picture of me with my scooter & broken feet. Believe me, ladies, I know fluffy. I have been way more than fluffy in my day. I'm 5'1 " & weighed 220 pounds at one time. I'm just terrified that I'll be right back there when I start Prednisone in January. I'm hanging on to all the great advice you have been passing around recently on this board. Wish I had some wise words to advise people about how to lose weight, but I honestly don't feel like I did much of it myself. In 2001 when I had surgery to help with my severe GERD problem, I jokingly asked the doctor if he could just take out my stomach while he was in there. He decided he could do a modified stomach bypass, whatever modified meant(???). He said it wouldn't be as drastic as the normal bypasses being done at the time, but that it should definitely help me lose about 40 pounds. He said I'd need to work for any more than that. Well, I lost 96 pounds! I had started swimming a lot to help recuperate from the surgery & just kept doing it. Once I saw the pounds melting away magically, I just kept up the momentum. It felt like a miracle (except for the flabby arms, etc. left behind because my poor old skin just couldn't spring back to normal. I still have it cuz I can't afford cosmetic surgery to get rid of it). The irony is that the GERD part of the surgery was only partially successful. I still have to take prescription Prilosec to this day although it's a smaller dosage than before. Peggy, you tell I'm in awe of his recuperative powers when he had broken feet & I'm keeping him as my inspiration to get better. Guest guest
Cees, I have to confess that I am also a klutz. A few nights ago I woke up in the night with a dry mouth. I got up to go to the kitchen to get a drink. I tripped over my wastebacket, then my night stand. I knocked over my lamp and I had both hands going to save the lamp so I felt against the wall and smooshed my nose. My nose is black and it spread a little to my eyes. Not as much damage as you got but embarrassing nonetheless.I hope the Prednisone doesn't do to you what it did to me. I just found out this morning that my kidney problems are caused from diabetes. My diabetes was caused from Prednisone . Therefore Prednisone caused my kidney problems as well as my fat. Imuran almost killed me by causing pancreatitis. I guess the disease isn't enough so the meds have messed me up worse than the disease. I hope you are up on your feet and going soon.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Re: PictureTo: Breathe-Support Date: Monday, December 21, 2009, 4:36 PM Dyane, Peggy & the rest of my air family, Thank you all for the nice comments & for not laughing when you saw the picture of me with my scooter & broken feet. Guest guest
OMG! Are you really OK, Beverly Joy? Did you go to the ER? What is the deal with us? I actually did something very similar way back in my misspent youth & everybody wondered if my (now ex) hubby was beating me. In reality he was, but not that time. It was just Klutz Kendall rearing her ugly face again. (BTW, that's why he's now my ex.) Re: Prednisone -- I've been refusing it for a year but with the discovery of my apparent RA, I've agreed to TRY it for a while. If it doesn't help dramatically though, I'd rather take my chances without it then suffer any of its well-known side effects. Guest guest
Cees Odds are you may suffer from some side effects but you can also take steps to minimize those. See a dietician up front to anticipate the issues with weight and diabetes and perhaps avoid them. Take what is appropriate to minimize damage to your bones. Be prepared to see someone for psychiatric meds and/or counseling if you feel your mood swinging out of control. Avoid exposure to germs and sick people. While side effects may not be preventable, they can be managed. Then if you suffer none you can say you were prepared anyway. As to helping dramatically, thats a bit extreme expectation. Helping moderately isn't good? Or even helping some? Think about the choice you have but then do give it a real honest shot if you decide to try prednisone. Life is all about balancing benefits and risks or, in this case, side effects. There's not a right answer but while it's important to understand the potential side effects, Rheumatoid Arthritis is treated every day and there are many different treatment options available. Unfortunately, they all do have some substantial risks of side effects. But, the good thing, is then you can try a different one. > > > > > > > > > > Cees, > > > > > > > > > > You are not fluffy. > > > > > > > > > > I am very fluffy. > > > > > > > > > > I am jealous. > > > > > > > > > > You look great! > > > > > > > > > > Dyane > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Cees, I'm really alright. My nose isn't even black anymore. I'm at my daughter's house for Christmas. I didn't go to the ER. It wasn't that bad. Last year when I slipped on the ice and got the biggest, ugliest black eye I have ever seen I went to the ER and they did a CT scan to see if there were any broken bones. There weren't. No man has ever hit be and I won't let them start now. Even as week as I am I would find a way to get even.I hope the Prednisone helps you without side effects.Beverley Joy,71, UIP,NSIP 1-09,Diabetes,Sjogren's,Fibromyalgia IdahoSubject: Re: PictureTo: Breathe-Support Date: Tuesday, December 22, 2009, 11:24 PM OMG!
