Guest guest
Hey , Did you say you were going to use Genotropin??? That is what we use for Bran. Dr H told us to tell them we wanted Genotropin with a mixer. You get the GH in a glass vial, where the dry powder is separated from the liquid. You place this vial in the " mixer " and screw down the cap until the separator in the vial breaks and the liquid mixes with the powder. Once all the powder is dissolved, (we were told we could tip the vial back and forth, but to never shake the vial) you draw the specified number of units out of the vial with an insulin syringe. It's very easy to do. My biggest worry in the beginning was whether or not I'd get all the air out of the syringe! LOL I've found if I pull a small amount of GH into the syringe, tap it, and then push it back into the vial, all the air goes with it, and I can draw an air-free syringe with no problem. It was also my understanding that you can do this with ANY GH as long as you specify that you prefer the mixer/syringe method instead of the pen, before you start injections. That way this is what they will train you with, and what you'll have on hand when the GH is delivered. One caution with the pen device. We started Bran's GH shots at the Convention, so we weren't prepared with syringes, an Inject-Ease, mixer, etc... Jodi Z and Carmen had extra syringes and were nice enough to allow us to borrow them. Anyway, we had to go back to the pen device until the supply company could deliver the syringes and the Inject-Ease. Well, when the pen was tried, for the very first shot, it DIDN'T work!! Apparently the battery, or whatever was faulty, in the brand new pen!! So I would make sure that when you get your training, have everything on hand, and make sure that you use YOUR pen (if you choose to go that route) for the first shot, so that you're sure it's working properly. Personally, now that I've gotten used to it, I much prefer the syringe/Inject-Ease method over using the pen. I can even do the shots without the Inject-Ease when I have too! LOL Big step from my first shot at the Convention, huh Jodi??? Hugs and Good Luck!! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 4 yrs old, G-Tube, GHT)
Guest guest
Pat, I'm reading your post and thinking you were making me a nice cocktail to start the procedure - LOL!!! Well right now I have the inject ease device which I think I would prefer to use over the pen but I don't know what the pen looks like in person and how it works really. I think, for insurance purposes, we are going to go with Norditropin. It looked like they can send you pens already filled? I have no clue and mixing this is a real project, so it seems!!
