But, I'd hate to be in an area where people > don't know how to drive in snow...wouldn't be fun. I say I'd rather drive in 2 feet of Chicago snow than 2 " here, because of how slick it gets, and the fact that people will NOT leave enough room between cars, and will not slow down. We were watching live news this morning, cars following too close and plowing into each other, and it was just insanity. Then there was the hill in Seattle which is CLOSED, but people were trying it anyway. The newsman was told by a policeman that if anyone caused an accident on a roadway closed because of snow, they would receive a ticket for reckless endangerment, which is a lot bigger deal than a fender bender. I'm glad I'm inside. We have about 6 " on the ground now, and it's just SO slippery. ~~ Lyn
Guest guest
For 15 years I HAD to drive in ice and snow, for 10 hours a day (plus the drive time to and from work). Calling in to work " because I can't get there, " is unacceptable for a police officer. If I get out in it now, somebody had better be dying. I'm perfectly capable of handling a vehicle in crappy weather, but it's the OTHER idiots that scare me to death. The first year we were in Puyallup was my first year with no VW bug or bus to drive. Yeah, I had a Subaru (AWD), but how could THAT be as good as an old VW? So, I sat and got cabin fever. Guest guest
Our slush usually washes away so fast that it's not a problem. The last time I remember having snow stick around forever was 1985. It was around everywhere for almost 2 weeks after the last snow, and in some areas even longer. 90 and 91 were intimidating, but I was young (and only weighed about 200-210) then. LOL! I had lots of Sr Citizens on my block who couldn't get out, one needing radiation. But I had an older but excellent VW bus (and bug convertible) and used them to get people where they needed to go. Slowly, cautiously. I am determined but not an idiot. OK, not an idiot about snow. Kinda fun thing about the big snow in 90 or 91, Arctic Express they called it, and we've never had below 0 temps until then. My kids could both drive, but not very experienced. I taught them " never surprise your wheels " . Don't stop, start, turn, shift fast. My son is coming down our lil hill in his VW bug, we're going up. We wave. He slams on his brakes, thinking we flagged him over. Oops. We watched as his car oh-so-gently slid into the ditch. He jumps out of the car, " MOM! You made me surprise my wheels!! " LOLOL! Neither he nor the car were hurt, since the whole thing happened at about 2 MPH. Don pulled him out with the Toyota 4WD pick-up and off he went. Thanks, Vitalady, Inc.
