Guest guest
A big ditto from me! As long as you're taking in sufficient fluids other than those containing caffeine, I don't see the need for such excessive orthodoxy as to completely eliminate caffeine if it is a pleasure in your life, as it is in mine (in moderation, meaning 's two cuppas in the AM). BTW Carol!!!! I have read recently that studies seem to indicate that moderate consumption of caffeine seems to BOOST exercise endurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am a morning 2 cupper and also a morning exerciser, and I can absolutely attest that on those mornings where I have tried, for whatever reasons, to exercise sans my caffeine, I have DEFINATELY dragged ass, and the workouts were more of a struggle, and I felt like I didn't have the kick I usually have. Not scientific, I know, but convincing enough for me, and now seemingly backed up by " studies. " So now, in the AMs, as I greedily slurp down my java, I think of it as necessary fuel for my exercise engine (yep it works for me LMAO!) Guest guest
Tina, I have given up sugar. I have given up refined carbs (all the breads I love.) I have given up all carbonated beverages. I am a Christian that tries to glorify God with my life the best I can by living honorably...so I don't smoke, drink (wine now and then) or hang out with men that are not my husband. That said... I drink 2 mugs of coffee a day. Strong, hot and caffeinated. I recognize that there are times I get some food cravings after I have the coffee (and that there are toxins in caffeine) so I make sure I water load. I have just come to realize that there are some things I am not willing to give up. My cup of coffee with my quiet time in the morning is one of those little things that gives me pleasure. This is just a long way of saying, " I understand. " Carol G goal > O.K. everyone.....I need some advice. I know that I've done this before, but have a question regarding the protein feast. For 3 days I'd like to do a protein feast, my question is would I still be able to have my 1 cup of coffee that I do in the morning while I'm driving through Seattle rush hour traffic? I'd like to cleanse my system of carbs and SF junk.....I'm going to increase my water intake and have started yesterday. Hopefully I can get some advice, but please, please, please don't get on me for the coffee drinking. I know some people will get on me (even the Sheriff is on my case), but with school right now, this is my comfort source. > > Thanks. > > Tina (jelly bean toes) & Sheriff too!! > >
Guest guest
BTW... I have done quite a few Protein Feasts that included my coffee. Protein shakes (up to 6 of them.) water vitamins water Sometimes a piece of cheese or fish if I feel something solid is needed (never beef) water Sometimes a protein bar if I feel something sweet tasting is needed. (cut into three pieces and consumed at 3 different times.) water Always with good results. Hang in there and let me know how you feel after you finish your " feast " ! Guest guest
I personally think it depends on what you put in your coffee. Some artificial sweetners (primarily the blue and pink stuff) can cause cravings for carbs so you may want to try your coffee with splenda. The other thing is that if you add milk or half and half, you may want to stop that for a few days. Otherwise, I would say have your cup of wakeup juices. I certainly would prefer you on caffeine and alive. NO SLEEPING AT THE WHEEL. I can say this because I am notorious for falling asleep at the wheel. Not a good thing. Guest guest
Tina, Drink your coffee... You do so well in every other department that I really don't think you should feel guilty about a singular pleasure. Especially if you're getting enough water and not putting milk or a whole bunch of other junk into your java. Tell Ron to LAY OFF, because Joanne says it's not nice to nag people. LOL There's my opinion... And I live near Seattle and don't even LIKE coffee!! Can't believe they haven't shipped me out... If I haven't' been converted in almost 6 years, I probably never will be. :-) Z Open RNY 09/17/01 http://www.ziobro.us Protein feast O.K. everyone.....I need some advice. Guest guest
Amen to that! We give up so much for this way of life, I don't think an indulgence such as coffee is going to derail anyone. The only downside I could see is the diuretic effect among other things, that coffee supposedly has on the body. For me? If I want to have a s/f chai tea in the morning, made with a tea bag, sweetened with artificial sweetener I'm gonna have it, plain and simple. > > O.K. everyone.....I need some advice. I try to avoid caffeine as much as possible, and have discovered the absolutely most *delicious* naturally caffeine-free tea. It's called Rooibos, and there are a number of sources on the internet for it. It is not truly a tea, but tastes very much like a very flavorful black tea, and it's loaded with antioxidants and other goodies. I have it with Splenda and feel like a queen! --- 365/194/160 Lap RnY, Distal - Dr. s Vanderbilt University Hospital Surgery date June 3, 2002 LBL, TT & Brachioplasty Feb. 4, 2004
Guest guest
> BTW Carol!!!! I have read recently that studies seem to indicate that > moderate consumption of caffeine seems to BOOST exercise endurance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I totally agree with that research! I am much more motivated to hit the treadmill for an hour if I had my caffeine. I can lift with or without it but the cardio seems to come easier and work better with some caffeine in me. It heightens my metabolism and I burn more cals. No one should try this that has any history of heart problems. I limit my caffeine to 2 cups a day and stick with decaf the rest of the day. Sometimes just a cup of decaf with some English toffee SF syrup in it at night is all I need to sip while watching TV (if I don't crash and burn first!) It satisfies my urge for something sweet. I am very mindful of the cals/carbs in creamers and use them sparingly. Carol Glad you are looking sleek these days
Guest guest
Actually, it's kind of funny, but I've never really liked the taste of coffee, so what I put in it is mocha-mix and SF syrup (kahluah or irish cream), but just enough to make it tan colored. Guest guest
Thank you and everyone else for helping me get through this first day. Actually I can honestly say that I fell off the wagon. I could not make it a full 24 hours. In fact, I only made it until 5 p.m. when I started eating veggies. Yes, they were good, but now I want popcorn (air popped of course), but I guess I can't complain since I have had 7 shakes so far today and lots of water (to include peeing all day long.......) Guest guest
You sound like my kinda gal. I HATE coffee. Never did acquire a taste for it so that actually sounds kind of good. Lori O.
