Hi ,

I just started seeing a naturopath doctor yesterday, in McMinnville, Oregon. One

of the doctors there actually wrote a book called His wife also wrote a book

called " Living with Crohns and Colitis "

http://www.powells.com/biblio/9781578263417

She also wrote a book called " The Anti-Inflammation Diet and Recipe Book " , it's

not nearly as strict as SCD, but at least on the same wave length. (I plan to

stay on SCD myself, but I was just impressed these doctors belive in the link

between diet & inflammation)

I saw the husband/doctor of the doctor/author yesterday, and I was pretty

impressed. I just started the whole treatment yesterday, literally, so I can't

give a ton of feedback, but I feel very very positive about it!

Here is a link to their website: http://www.afamilyhealingcenter.com/

Feel free to contact me with any more questions! The first appointment is

generally about 1 hour, where they do a complete health history on you. Out of

pocket cost is about $225, luckily they are covered by ODS Insurnace, and I get

3 alternative healing appointments per year for $25/pop. (only benefit to my

super high deductbile insurance coverage)

The doctor sent me home with these different tinctures/plant extracts ($75

total)that are supposed to help my body relax out of " inflammed mode " he

believes over the past 3 years I have all these GI problems, that my body has

forgotten how to calm itself down into a resting state. I am paraphrasing the

best I can.. And so I go back 2 more times, where I get some light massage and

some injections of extracts (?) that are supposed to help. He said we would also

runs tests to try and get to the bottom of what started this, possible parasite,

bacteria, etc, but in the end, his goal is to help my body heal itself.

His wife/author, Dr. Black, was out of town when I made my appointment,

but I am told they circulate the paitents around with each doctor there and

collarboratively help with the diagnosis/solution.

It might be worth the drive up from Corvallis!

Ooops, the first paragrah of my response got all garbled up. Here are links to

the two different books written by the wife of the naturopathic doctor I saw

yesterday (she is also a practicing doctor at the same location, she just

happened to be away at a convention):

***Disclaimer*** Not recommending in replace of SCD - just noting that the

doctor at the clinic I am going to wrote this book about anti-flammatory diets:

http://www.amazon.com/Anti-Inflammation-Diet-Recipe-Book-Arthritis/dp/0897934857

She also wrote this book on Living with Crohns and Colitis - NOTE, I have not

yet read this book, so cannot endorse ;)

Take Care!

Hello ! Welcome here! I was diagnosed in Nov. last year, and decided to

go right away with diet and alternative treatments. Through my " friends and

family " network I heard of two doctors in the general Seattle area. My take is

that, when you go see a new dr, you are interviewing them, and so that's what I

did! I saw both docs, heard what they had to say, and made a decision that I

have not regreteed. My Naturopath is one of the most well respected ones in my

area, and as an added bonus, he himself suffers from active Crohns and has never

taken drugs for it. I followed his plan religiously since seeing him in Jan of

this year. I will say that, in combination with my diet, my symptoms are almost

non-existant (but of course I still have the occassional gas or ache). My

advice to find one: search out your network of friends and family, and if you

can afford it, see a couple different ones. If not, go with the one who has the

most experience treating IBD. Also, I put a lot of stock in how I'm treated

from the get-go, which means how are the secetaries and how do they treat

people? It doesn't always signify a problem, but more times than not if the

front office people stink, the people behind the doors are not going to be much

better. :)

Emai me with any questions, I would love to talk more!

Pam
