Guest guest
THANKS SUE GOOD INFO! DOT/UIP10/08/42/SA/TX Subject: Re: life insurance? To: Breathe-Support Date: Thursday, January 21, 2010, 9:43 AM I wrestled with this issue too. My husband and I went to the funeral home we were going to use, discussed what arrangements we wanted, and they gave us a price. We could pay for the funeral now or not pay anything and leave the information/ planning in a file until the time came for the family to make arrangements. That way, at least they would know what we wanted and wouldn’t be burdened with thinking they should “get the best†and spend unnecessary money. The third option was to pay a certain amount each month, which turned out to be the most expensive way to go. The money would be paid to an insurance company and not the funeral home. We opted to pay for the funeral now, and an insurance policy was issued through Homesteaders Group Life Insurane Co. I think it is a company this particular funeral home used when a funeral was prepaid and maybe other funeral homes have the same type of deal. If the person moved, the contract was transferrable to wherever. When the time came to use it, the cost of the funeral home services would be fixed at 2009 rates. We met with the funeral home people twice before finalizing anything. I wanted to do this for my family because when my Dad passed away 3 years ago, he had prepaid his funeral and it was the best thing he could have done for his “kids†There were “incidental†expenses we paid, but the bulk of the money was paid and we knew what he wanted.
