Guest guest
Hi Tony- I see your posts often, and I'm sorry that you are feeling so down about your appearance. But constantly posting and complaining about it really isn't going to get you anywhere (no offense)Perhaps you can post your before and after pictures and we can give you our objective opinions. Maybe its really not as bad as you think? Tony wrote: I had my jaw moved forward 10mm in Dec 04, and the plates removed 4 months ago. I have been playing football twice a week for the last 6 weeks every Wednesday and Thursday for 1 hour each time. After each game my cheeks seem swollon again, and they stay swollon for the day after too. Do you think I should stop playing football until my face hs healed or continue playing or do you think playing football will effect the healing process?. My OS said I could play football, but to be careful. At the moment I feel as if i can not do anything, when i go out and drink and talk alot my cheeks swell when i laugh alot my cheeks swell. I feel as if anything i do at this moment effects my swelling. Please help it is really getting me down.
Guest guest
Ouch Sammyara:-( I think some of us deal with the ups and downs post- op better than others and as we all know, how we look and feel post- op is very subjective and personal. Tony - I am 5 months post-op and yes, when I exert myself too much my cheeks tend to still swell up. If I've gone out and had one too many drinks my cheeks swell up. I recently came down with the flu and my face seems to have swelled up. When I've had a particularly hard day where I've spent a fair amount of time talking my cheeks swell up. I know it's frustrating but you have to bear in mind that our body is a wonderful but complicated creature and it takes time for it to heal 100%. Think of it this way - if you had broken your leg severely and then had to have screws put into it and then subsequently removed how do you think your leg would deal? Probably after a game of football it would swell up and you would probably even have a slight limp. AT least that is what happened to me after I severely broke my foot and tore the ligaments. It took up to 2 years for everything to feel normal again. Your jaw and face is no different, so patience my friend. You may feel that you're not doing very much but if you're playing football then you're already doing more than back in December when you had the plates removed. Try to stay positive as hard as that may be and try to visualize your jaw actually healing. I have found that these two factors have always helped me go a long way in the healing process. Keep your chin up mate:-) Sara > I had my jaw moved forward 10mm in Dec 04, and the plates removed 4 > months ago. Guest guest
Have you looked into Lymph Drainage Therapy? Does anyone else have experience with this? Would it help to have this post-op? I've only read about it - not had personal experience. Sue > > I had my jaw moved forward 10mm in Dec 04, and the plates removed 4 > months ago. Guest guest
Yes, it's helpful to have, both pre-op (to open up the lymph network) and post-op. I have written about it on the geocities site at http://www.geocities.com/orthognathicinfo/ just click on MLD THERAPY There are a growing number of orthognathic surgery patients who have had this therapy. I have a friend who had it after his knee surgery, and also a friend who had breast cancer surgery - both have been pleased with the outcome. > > Have you looked into Lymph Drainage Therapy? Guest guest
Tony When I lived in London I used to have MLD done at a center in Notting Hill Gate. Not sured if you're located in London. If so let me know and I'll try to find you the details of the place. They were very good. Sara > > > > > > Have you looked into Lymph Drainage Therapy? Guest guest
Hi Tony, I have had lymphatic massage for a knee problem and for another facial surgery, and for a neck problem. It did help the swelling for me, but it has to be repeated. Most therapists can show you how to do a form of it after you have had a few treatments, so you can do some of it yourself between more intense visits. My physical therapist worked on my knee, but the massage specialists I used otherwise worked with a chiropractic clinic near me. In my region of the US, the massage therapists who do this tend to work with chiropractors. I don't know if that is helpful to you in your location, but you might contact a few physiotherapists and chiropractors in your area if you have them, and they might be able to at least direct you to where you might find a reputable therapist. Good luck with this! Hugs, Fran > > > > > > Have you looked into Lymph Drainage Therapy? Does anyone else > > have > > > experience with this? Would it help to have this post-op? Guest guest
Hi Tony, I don't know of anyone in the UK who had this therapy. You could try calling physiotherapists and massage therapists and ask whether they have this training. My treatment was performed by a physiotherapist. Alternately, try this link at the Vodder School in Austria. You may have to cut and paste to get the whole link in your browser. If you check down the page, there are some UK practitioners (it's basically anyone who's not in Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, etc.). My knowledge of the geography of England is non-existent, so I'm not sure if any of these are near you. http://www.wittlinger- therapiezentrum.at/deutsch/vodderschule/index.htm?/deutsch/inhalt/the rapeutenliste-vodderschule.htm Hope that helps! > > > > > > Have you looked into Lymph Drainage Therapy?
