Guest guest
I can't hurt to go in and get another scan/opinion. At 20 mo. I'm not sure how much growth/rounding you are going to get. Also, your son was in his 1st band for 8 months (right?) which is quite a long time for 1 band. My dd had 2 Hanger bands in a 6mo. time period. (6-12 mo.) But call your provider and see if they will scan again. It may he;[ put your mind to rest that his head is OK. Also, you can post before, after and now pics if you want us to take a look. HTH! Jen Mom to Luli - 4 yrs old Torticollis, Plagio, Syringomyelia Too late for second helmet? My son had a helmet (Hanger Ortho) from age 8 months to about 16 months. He is now 20 months. It rounded out his head considerably, but he still has torticollis and low muscle tone, so it has reverted back a bit in the last 4 months. He has of course now outgrown the first helmet. We are considering doing another though he is now 20 months and I'm just not sure it is worth it. Either expense or results. I would appreciate feedback from parents in similar situations. Thanks so much!
Guest guest
My son had a Hanger Helmet from 7-13 months, and we put him in a CT Doc Band right afterwards (right when he turned 14 months). It was a hard decision, because the nearest CT is 4 1/2 hours away, but I am SO happy we did it. Cranial Technologies doesn't believe that a band does much good after 16 weeks because the holding points don't hold anymore. I don't know about you, but that seemed completely true with our Hanger Helmet- he was in it for 6 months, but we saw no results for the last 8 weeks (maybe a mm). He has been in his Doc Band for 4 1/2 weeks and I am relieved at how well it is working. I was not happy with the shape of his head when he finished with Hanger, and already I am pretty satisfied. It isn't nearly as fast growth as when he was younger, but it has been overall rounding and his head looks much less severe. Of course, we are hoping for even more improvement over the next 2-3 months. I think it is harder with boys- most girls will have somewhat longer hair, but a boy may one day shave his head, get a buzz cut, or go bald. I try to think about him being 16 and being on some sports team where they all decide to shave their heads, and his being an odd shape. It sounds crazy to spend all this time and energy (and money) on head shape, but I just want him to be as handsome as he deserves to be! Casey > > I can't hurt to go in and get another scan/opinion.
