Guest guest
Hi Anne It seems to depend on the person. I'm also 5 weeks post op, and plan to start work part time on Monday.... It's hard to say whether it's the right thing to do until I try a whole day of work and see how tiring it is! If you are allowed the time off, I'd take all that you can get! Guest guest
Hi Anne, I was told pre-op that I would have to take 6-8 weeks off work due to the bone graft, extent of the surgery and the fact that I work as a nursery nurse and there's no telling what those little one's will do. But after my surgery I was told by my surgeon and physiotherapist that I would need at least 10 weeks off. I ended up needing a lot more than that. But it all depends on how you're feeling. --------------------------------- Yahoo! Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. Try it free. Guest guest
My doc said I would only need 7-10 days off. I went ahead and asked for 3 weeks off, but am now into the second week, and really think I could have gone back this week if it weren't for a few appointments throughout this week and being banded so tightly that talking is difficult. I spend most of my work day behind the computer, so it's not a big deal really, but I still plan to be off the rest of this week just to relax (and get some things done around the house), and will probably go back next week, only using two weeks off...unless something comes up at my next appt that would prevent that, but I can't imagine what that would be. I had upper and lower done on 9/29, and really have had an easy recovery, with my only big issues being the medicine making me queasy and tired and not being able to eat much for a few days because of that. By one week post-op I was feeling almost 100% normal again, except for the numbness. Hope you start feeling 100% real soon! ~
Guest guest
Same here. I was told 2 weeks. I went back to work the 3rd week but only worked for 20 hours. I should have taken off 3 weeks. I was 25 when I had it done but I had a blood tranfusion because I think I had ibruprofen the friday before (my surgery was on a Tuesday) I had a rough recovery. But the 4th week started to get better. Plus, it all depends on what you do. I have an office job sitting in front of a computer, so there's not much physical work involved. I couldn't believe people are being told 8 weeks! I had my splint removed after 6 weeks. But I guess it all depends on your age and physical condition. But it is better to overestimate for job reasons. Mindy > > My doc said I would only need 7-10 days off. Guest guest
Anne - I haven't had my surgery yet (BSSO set-back + LeFort 1-piece by next June) but my OMS told me that I will be off for a minimum of four weeks. I have Short Term Disability time built up - a total of thirteen weeks, but I'm sure I won't be off for THAT long. LOL! My co-workers have told me to take all the time off I need, and come back when I am ready to work a full day. (I don't think they really understand what I will be going thru post-op although I've explained it many times.) I think I will probably take the four weeks my OMS has suggested, and then he and I will play it by ear. He says my splint will be removed at three to four weeks, he will be sending me back to my OD at four weeks to resume my Ortho, and he plans to have me eating soft/no-chew foods after the splint comes off. ~~~ Diane (Idaho)-- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " anneseekins " <anneseekins@y...> wrote: > > How long do most people take off work post surgery. Guest guest
I had LeForte 1 and BSSO (underbite) on September 28. I am self employed so I planned to take about 4 weeks off. I'm returning to work after 3 weeks because I feel fine. I have some swelling and numbness, but no pain. I probably could of gone back after 2 weeks, but I wanted a little vacation > > > > How long do most people take off work post surgery. Guest guest
Hi Anne, I had the same surgery you are having on September 27. I was back at work full time after one week. The splint made talking a bit difficult, but I managed. My doc took the splint out on Monday. I am two weeks post-op and I'm doing great. I am also self-employed, but mainly went back to work because of boredom! Hope this helps and good luck. > > > > > > How long do most people take off work post surgery.
