Guest guest
Hello, I am currently 16 days post op and have started to really question this decision. Most of the swelling is gone but I have these horrible earaches in the middle of the night. I am still on liquid. Does anyone have an idea of when I will be able to chew?...I know I ahve to get the OK from the OS but I wanted your advice especially if you had the same procedure. Also, when will this pressure go away? It just doesn't feel right!! I don't want to be a baby but it is driving me crazy!!!!! I need encouragement. Guest guest
Hi, I'm 28 days post op. I have a constant ringing ear on my left side, I can tell it's trying to drain but never quite gets there. My surgeon says it's normal, I think because the upper jaw procedure is so close to the ear canal, maybe it puts pressure on it. You should talk to your surgeon about the ear-aches and what you can take for it, and if it's something you should go see an ear-nose-throat specialist about. I put my heat pack on my ear and the side of my neck, it seems to relieve the pain for a while. If the pressure you're refering to is in the jaw...I still have mine. I'm not counting on it going away for another month - I was told this was a 2-month recovery, so I don't expect that feeling to go away until the bone heals. About the chewing - I think it depends on your OS, some people that have posted on this site have been chewing from really early on. I haven't been given the o.k. to chew yet, just liquid and mushy stuff. You need to ask your OS this. You're just past two weeks now....each week will get easier, you have to remember this is a loonngg recovery! Take care, Pam > > Hello, I am currently 16 days post op and have started to really > question this decision. Guest guest
I had an upper 3 piece le forte so my case is probably different from yours but i wasn't allowed to chew until at least 1 month post-op and basically that was scrambled eggs. I haven't really started to chew real food until recently I am four months post-op so the I would try to be patient on the chewing front. The good news is that pretty soon you should be able to move onto less liquid food and therefore add some variety to your diet. I found the " only liquid " restriction on my diet really boring and really frustrating and really depressing. Feeling like a baby is totally normal. You've undergone a very big surgery and it's no walk in the park. If you feel like having a cry go for it. I used to give myself a 5 minute cry every day. i would lock myself in the bathroom and just let all that frustration out and it helped. I promise it will get better and with each day you will begin to feel more positive about your decision to go through with this ordeal. As for the earaches that's probably from the swelling going down. My ears were constantly ringing for a really long time post-op. probably at least for the first month. if the pain gets really bad see if your doctor can prescribe you some ear drops to numb the pain. Hold on tight, you're almost at the finish line! Sara > > Hello, I am currently 16 days post op and have started to really > question this decision. Guest guest
Hello, I'm five months post-op and after a difficult recovery I am finally able to chew again, though I was cleared to chew again at 3 months (it took 3 months because of infections etc). I am having problems with my ears too especially pressure, my ENT says it's due to the new position of the jaw, i will mention this to my surgeon when I see him. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
