Guest guest
Hi Nitha, I had lower jaw advancement to correct my massive overbite last July. I have plates and screws implanted into each side of my jaw. Now that I am 8 weeks post-op, I can say that I truly do love my new bite. The surgery made it beautiful. It's great to see my bottom teeth FINALLY resting against the back of my top teeth..where they are supposed to be! The only annoying complication that I have experienced is the numbness. I had absolutely NO nerve damage, but my chin and bottom lip have been numb since surgery day. It can take years for the feeling to return. I admit that I am very, very terrified that it will never return but I try to have faith. -Ash > Hi, > > I'm considering having Orthognathic surgery to correct a major > overbite. Guest guest
Welp, the first words my surgeon spoke to me when I woke up from the surgery was " Congratulations! You have no nerve damage " (he knew that was my biggest fear). He's an excellent doctor and I trust his word. -Ash > > Hi, > > > > I'm considering having Orthognathic surgery to correct a major > > overbite. Guest guest
Hi Nitha, I had major overbite with the protruding upper jaw. My chin was very weak. I had my surgery done just last Wednesday. After having the surgery, I found it quite good. It worths having it. I was very nervous before the surgery started, but in fact, there was no discomfort before I fell asleep. I thought that the surgery sounded a bit complicated to me in the beginning, but the OS told me that it was nothing to him. I think what is more important to you is to look for a good surgeon that you have confident on him/her once you have decided to have the surgery. Guest guest
Thanks Irene. good luck on your recovery process. Guest guest
Hi Ash, Thanks for the feedback. the numbness that you referred to is one of the things that scares me... also, I wasn't sure if jaw surgery is going to make me look totally different. One orthodontist told me that the braces would adjust my jaws sufficiently.. another one told me that I would need surgery... hmmmm.. maybe I need a third opinion as the tie breaker.
