Guest guest
Hi Everyone, As many of you remember I had my upper jaw surgery about 10 weeks ago (5/31). As a result of the surgery, my septum was deviated. I went in on 6/11 to get my septum straightened by my OS. He told me that he could just simply " nudge " it back into place. Within a week, I knew that something wasn't right, and my septum decided to drift back to where it was (crooked). Fast forward a few weeks, I finally got in to see an ENT a couple weeks ago, and he told me that my septum was definitely deviated and that I had 70% blockage in the good nostril and 85% blockage in the bad nostril. No wonder I can't breathe! Also, because of the septum blockage, my turbinates are enlarged now, and I have to get a turbinate reduction. So the ENT is going to do what should have been done in the first place, and remove the excess cartlidge at the bottom of my nose, and hopefully I can breathe again. What happened was, as my upper jaw was overgrown, my septum grew down with it helping to create my previous " long face " . Moving my jaw up 6 mm left my septum with nowhere to go but to bend. So....I'm having that done tomorrow (Thursday). I hope this ends this long surgery journey. I'm getting tired of people rearranging my face:-). On a happier note, I ate my first steak this week. A filet mignon, as it's the most tender, but a steak no less. Let me tell you, it was heaven! It hurt like heck to eat it though, so I don't reccomend it to anyone who is only 2 mos. post op. I'll probably wait another couple months so I can actually enjoy it:-). I'll post when I feel up to it, probably Friday.

I noticed you said you had a long face and that is what I have. I am having upper jaw surgery on Wednesday, August 17. My main concern is this: I have always been a mouth-breather since my nostrils are so small that I can't get in enough air through them. I have breathed through my mouth since I was a child and I do it without even thinking about it. I am mainly scared that with the postop splint in my mouth I won't be able to get in enough air. I have talked to my OS about this and he assures me that I'll be fine, but I would feel better hearing from another mouth-breather that had this done. I know that if I wake up and can't breathe through my mouth I will PANIC. Is there another mouth-breather out there who has had this surgery? If so, how did it go? Thanks, Tonya
