Guest guest
The only thing I can't understand is why vegetarians who do not eat meat keep trying to create things like tofurkey, that TASTE like meat. Makes them seem like closet carnivores to me. <VBG> Jac http://www.pictureitdigitaldesigns.com/ http://members.cox.net/XXXFARMPAINTS mail to: jholdaway@... My prediction for your vegetarian feast: there will be a creation made of TVP and shaped into a turkey --- yummy! With a miso gravy! and lots and lots of luscious seaweed stuffing! ROFLMAO! Seriously though vegetarian dinners can be surprisingly delicious! Nuts, cheeses, for the protein, soy stuff that can be masked quite brilliantly ... but you are right, probably carb heavy. So listen if you ever want to get even with these folk, there's always my tofu lasagna recipe! It's lethal! Have a good gobble gobble just the same! Guest guest
my experience is that with the meat replacements, if you eat them on their own merit and not with the " replacement " concept, most of them are okay. If you expect them to taste like their " meat counterparts " , then you will be sorely disappointed. Guest guest
Me!!! Me!!! At the risk of offending the others....I want the tofu lasagna recipe! Never did I think I would say it...but I actually like tofu. I have even made special trips to the store just for tofu. Funny story.... one night I stopped on my way home from work for groceries. I picked up tofu, Amy's organic frozen stuff, some fresh veggies, bean sprouts, hummus, fresh veggies, all healthy type foods. No garbage. Matter of fact, I even commented to the cashier that there was no junk foods in my order. On the way out I stopped to play $5 in video poker (this is Las Vegas after all, and we have machines at the grocery stores) and when I got up to leave I discovered my groceries were gone!! However, they were replaced with someone else's food. And here's the funny part. This person no doubt accidentally took home my food and left me their porterhouse steak, shrimp, mushrooms, wine, ice cream, candy and cereal!! (guess the last 2 was an afterthought) Can you imagine how angry they were when they got home, ready to cook dinner and find tofu instead of steak in their bag??!! Heck, I got the better basket I guess....but as it turns out, they did call, return my groceries and I got my goodies back. And I did double my money on the $5 I gambled too! We're raised on " meat & potatoes, " or at least main dishes made with meat, and we can't see any other way to eat. I know I have a hard time coming up with nutritious meals that don't have fake meat for them. All our normal foods have meat. I'm cooking for kids -- so we think in terms of sloppy joes, tacos, hamburgers and hot dogs, casseroles (lots of casseroles -- gotta make the money stretch). So I use meat replacements for that. My vegetarians are not into the beans and grains lifestyle, they just think that killing animals is wrong. (They didn't get this from me, I'm convinced my canine teeth were created for a reason.) But they like the taste of meat, so, when we can afford it, we do meat replacements. Some of them are actually not too bad, and my meat-resistant pouch likes them quite a lot. Not Tofurky -- yuck. But Gardenburger makes these little barbecue riblets that are fantastic... so we adapt. ~~ Lyn, who can't WAIT to cook " normal " food again! LOL! Guest guest
I have always hated all meat replacements... with one exception now. The Boca Burgers. I think they taste terrific. Problem is they are higher in carbs than real meat. So NOW they are out for me. hehehehe Re: Re: No Turkey Turkey Day > my experience is that with the meat replacements, if you eat them on their > own merit and not with the " replacement " concept, most of them are okay.
